  • Old History--1953---

    From the highest/fastest 5/8 miler in it's time, found this old article about the old, now defunct, Fort Wayne Ind Speedway;

    1953- the Fort Wayne Speedway will host a Sunday afternoon card of Big Cars, 30 of them, starting at 2:30 pm, sanctioned by CSRA. The card is made up of:

    -2---staggered reverse start races
    -an 8 lap conventional start race
    -an international handicap race
    -a helmet dash
    -a semi-feature
    -a big 50 lap final feature

    I get what it's all about mostly, but I haven't heard of these terms, program/card-wise. 30 cars and a complete afternoon show.

    You and all of us will never hear these terms again. Along time ago a track could make a day or night of racing with one class or two classes. Have a semi-feature for the cars that did not make the feature(s). Now to make a night of racing, tracks have to have 5 or 6 classes to get enough cars for a show. Then they complain when they have to start in the rear because they are the fastest.
