  • new update on Sunshine Speedway

Heard another thing about Sunshine Speedway reopening. That was a person by the name Steward Licett was heading up the deal, (selling t-shirts).
Understand he runs a driving school. Used to work for a racing fuel company.

Also, read in the Tampa paper yesterday that Crist wants to open up the state building fund that has 28billion dollars in it to get new roads started to put people to work (mostly be illegals). If that is the case the road going thur Sunshine maybe coming.

What is your problem with some peopletrying to get Sunshine opened back up. I personally know many of the people trying to get this accomplished and none of them are in it for any profit. The states timetable is just that , there timetable. At this point this is the best chance of getting the speedway opened backup. If it happens great, if not at least someone tried. You obviously seem to have a problem with the people trying to get this done. That is certainly your right but I would think in this day of speedways closing that an effort to reopen one would be supported. Just my opionion for what its worth. Steve Olone

      I know things

My gripe with these people is that I know things that you don't know and I know things that they don't know that I know. You know it seems funny to me that they make it sound like they can just lease the track from the state just like that with out the state putting out notices so other people can bid on it for what ever they want to use it for. That she made it sound like they had a meeting with the state on the 29th of July and now she is saying that is not so. It is not going to happen, they know it is not going to happen. If someone really had the money to do this they would not need people to buy t-shirts, sign petitions. If they need 500 names on their chart by 8/17 and today is 8/16 9:55p.m. and they only have 210 names to show someone with money that it is worth it, they better hurry up and get more names. At the beginning it was never their plan to
have the money for t-shirts and other stuff to be donated to a local non-profit group. Last week when the St Pete Times wrote on the closing of USA SPEEDWAY they quoted "Critter" from Citrus Country Speedway that they have made money only one night this year. Right now Citrus is one of the tracks that have good car count. If other tracks have the same or less car count that Citrus has then how can they be making money. Who would open a track that needs everything redone knowing that they are not going to make money or going to break even after five years. Steve I know you and you are a nice person so please take this being said in a nice way, keep planning on racing at East Bay.

Ok, you make some valid points however why would these people involved risk there personal reputation? To sell T-shirts, I dont think so. Does it really matter what Stewart has done in the past for a living? There are a million ways to scam people out of money without going to the effort that has been put forth. As far as continuing to race at East Bay I am having a blast on the dirt but would love to come home to race.

Just showing that Stewart has a racing background, that is a good thing to show, isn't it? Selling adult t-shirts for $12.00, child size for $10.00 and bumper stickers for $3.00 each can add up quickly when you can double the price of everything. Web sites like bring back the track doesn't cost that much. If it did they sure have listen to Dale Jr. and Dania Patrick and go with GO DADDY. If the t-shirts and bumper stickers were to help get the word out about the track and show all this togetherness why not sell them at cost. Remember you already got people with money backing this. Reputation, that is a good point. However, one state trooper was found out when money was missing from the back gate at SS. Reputation and money took mixed.
