  • 2nd Annual Tony Stewart/Kevin Ward Poll

As most probably know, it has been about a year since an unfortunate Sprint Car incident, involving Tony Stewart driving a Sprint Car under caution and striking an angry Kevin Ward on foot, who was upset after an altercation between the two. Kevin Ward lost his life.

Tony was exonerated in criminal court, but now Kevin's family has filed a "wrongful death" civil suit against Tony, an action which requires a smaller burden of proof to obtain a "guilty" verdict.

BUT, that is not what the poll is about.

A year later, do you feel as the Ward family does, that Tony's actions, though perhaps not directly intentional, were negligent and caused the death of their son, or...

That Tony is innocent and Kevin walked into the path of Tony's car and created his own problem, or...

An unspecified third option, which you can then explain if you wish.

In fact, feel free to discuss the incident in any fashion that you like, but please, in a manner respectful to all parties involved.

Interestingly, the numbers are about reversed from last year.

Either different people are responding, or it may show that Race Fans have forgiveness in their hearts, a very good thing.

Don't be so sure about forgiveness yet from the Ward family...

I have my opinions, but don't wish to create another firestorm.

        GP,

Was describing the folks here at KARNAC that have participated in this poll.

Re: Firestorm? This is a forum.

Feel free to state your opinion.

Mine has not changed. I was a Tony fan, but no longer.

For all the good Tony Stewart has done for racing in general and weekly short track racing in particular(mainly through his promoting and positioning of Eldora entering into Nascarland and his work with various sprint car entities)he may have very well wiped that out last summer. There is a whole segment of east coast race fans who were Kevin Ward fans who will never forget or forgive him whatever his intentions were that night.

Um, no criminal charges against Tony after a full investigation and it was never shown that his actions were deliberate.

Kevin Ward, under the influence of drugs, got out his car and walked down the track towards the other cars.

I cannot tell who is the bigger idiot, the kid for his actions or the parents trying to get money for it.

The kid made his last mistake.

              The parents...?

"Writing one of the final chapters in O. J. Simpson's long legal case, a civil court jury here ordered him today to pay a financially debilitating $25 million in punitive damages to the families of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald L. Goldman." --New York Times, 2/11/97

That's one of the problems with our legal system, if there are no charges or a not guilty verdict you should not be allowed to run down to the next courthouse.

Like I said before, the family is a bunch of money hungry idiots and I have absolutely zero compassion for them.

                  Actually have compassion for both...

A tragedy all the way around. They lost their son, and Tony has suffered a huge personal loss in who he was as well.

It's got EVERYTHING to do with it...no compassion for someone losing a child?
                        Sorry for you.
                        Maybe someday you will soften...

                            GP,

Another choice is to have compassion for Exnyer as well.

Clearly he feels strongly, but compassion and opinion regarding the facts are two different things.

Nonetheless, sorry if you are offended.

No offense taken OS. I just do not like people that try to capitalize from a tragedy. The kid is dead by his own actions, money will not replace him or ease the pain, so why sue? The plain and simple answer is money.

There is no reason to have compassion for me, I have my opinion of this and I stand by it.
