  • New Smyrna Speedway Sportsman 8/29

The next sportsman race at New Smyrna Speedway will be August 29th. It is a 50 lap race. The American Auto Bounty on Patrick Thomas has increased to $500 Cash. When combined with purse money; any sportsman who beats Patrick and wins the race will take home $1,500!

Shouldn't the driver that has a Bounty on them start somewhere other than the Pole. just asking. Back in the day someone like porter, anderson, scarborough, etc would go to the rear and if they pulled if off they was the man. No disrespect to Patrick he's on a roll but starting on the pole is like taking candy from a baby, just saying

As stated in my post race rambling, it wasn't a cakewalk.

Patrick has started from the rear. In fact, before the bounty, somewhere along the way I believe they offered him a bonus to start from the rear, and he chose to do so.

He has started from the rear, from mid pack, from close to the front, why not from the front if the rules put him there?

You kind of can't rewrite rules just for one guy...And NASCAR started Big E, Gordo, and Johnson on the pole for plenty of weekends during the periods that each were repeatedly dominant.

I have been there for a number of his victories and I can tell you it is a weekly challenge that seemingly cannot be overcome, yet somehow he and the long-ways-from-new piece he shrewdly screwed together get to the checker first.

It has been mentioned that NSS pays him a nice percentage of the bounty if he wins, but still, everyone else gets more if they win. IMO, no other consequences need to be specifically stacked against him.

Back in the day, if I remember, everything was inverted. Points inverted the heats, and the heats inverted the feature.

It was a badge of honor to start in the back. To your point, OWM61, it would suit me if those were the current rules. For everyone.

It's a flat out lousy system. None of those cars, Thomas, Beckner, Bass, etc, should be anywhere closer than 14th in a 24 car field. Heats should only be used to enter into a handicapping pool. 7 from each heat go into that pool, and then the lowest 2 or 3 week average that advance into that pool would start pole and then work your way back to 14th. Since Patrick has won the last 63 consecutive weeks, that puts him 14th. Better racing through the field.

Funny how people want to change the one thing working in fl asphalt racing lately...SMDH..They didn't put him on the pole they did an invert which put him on the pole.

Honestly it says you have to beat him... Correct? So if he starts in front you need to pass him and win! If he starts in back people could just run blocker and hold him off. Personally I think it looks better if you pass him to win. But I also think he should have the choice to start in last and if he wins he takes the bounty! Step up your game. He's beatable. Win we first started racing there were about 5 guys up front I thought we'd never beat. But after awhile we started beating them(with the same equipment we started with) and pretty soon we were one of those 5 guys.

He has started in the back a few different time but he has that car on a rail and he is a hell of a driver

                Well put, EJC.

Additionally, he is a hell of a guy and helps pretty much anyone that he can to run better.

Counterproductive on the track maybe, but very productive in the bigger scheme of things...life.

if he is not crashing u to win then that makes him the better driver and car but the thing I like about it is he has given me a goal to shoot for so we work 5 night a week to find a way to win and with that said good job pat

There is always the old saying that if you can't beat him buy his car! Patrick's eight time feature winning and current track record holder at NSS and Citrus County is now FOR SALE!!!! $18,000 ready to win. This is not a joke bring the money Saturday and take the car home! (only after the race of course).

All well and good. But you have to be able to know what to do with it. I don't think anyone can do with that car what Patrick does. You can't buy the guy who drives it and sets it up. I had a friend sell a top running pro truck a few years back. Championship truck that could always win. Without the setup help, it became average real fast. You gotta do your homework is the truest statement ever made.

everyone just needs to do their home work and drive smooth. patrick runs a smooth race and consistant laps everytime i think the 71 and bass have faster cars, bass cant catch a break and the 71 burns the tires off plus they both give it hell driving. the sportsman class is the best class out now and i hope it continues to be the best

Indeed, but after you deliver the $18K in crisp $100 bills, if you have enough left over you may be able to rent him!
