Keslowski ran over some crew guys, the guys with the dump cans spill a little fuel and there is a fire, accidents happen, look what happened with kahne, he was not even on pit road. When you have a 3000 lb car at 200 mph, there is not much that will stop it, and when it meets a 200 lb human well.....

There is no need for more rules, it is simple to eliminate the accidents, stop racing. Remember you are still safer at the racetrack or strapped into a car, rather than driving on 1-4.

Okay, type or copy and paste this:

      >It is okay to wait until the last minute and slam on the brakes. If you hit a pedestrian, no big deal.

      >It is okay to burn out in a hurry without looking and hit a pedestrian or another car with pedestrians attached or nearby.

Hell, I am more careful than that a Publix.

But it is different here because we are racing.

Well not to the guy's ankle, that is kind of the same fracture or debilitating injury. But, you know, he knew what he was signing up for.

So it's okay to hit him. With your 3500 pound car. Because you are one of the best drivers in the world.

Probably done beat this to death, um, pun probably intended.

Am clearly in the minority here at Diehl's coliseum.

We will just wait until another injury occurs and I will break out the soapbox agin...

OS, I am not being disrespectful, I am just trying to state what else could be done? I appreciate your concern for safety at all tracks, but to fully eliminate the dangers of pit road they would have to stop all pit stops.

Now, let me bring something up, how concerned is nascar about pit road safety, I have seen absolutely nothing reported about the crew members or nascar's official position on safety for them. So, in essence they are either (1) not concerned or (2) they know that there is very little they can do about it?

Why did nascar remove all of the pit road officials from there, was it to reduce manpower needed on race day or was it because they want to minimize the amount of employees due to safety concerns?

Don't be like the government and try to protect everyone from everything......look at percentages......there are thousands of pit stops a year ....3 or 4 "injuries" are less than a tenth of a percent......should we stop flying airplanes because one crashed????
It's like the NFL lawsuit over concussions......oh, you mean I can get hurt playing football????? They know what they are doing when they sign up to do it.......

              "...what else could be done?"--Exner

"Anyone who touches another car or crewman, with or without damage, loses 5 laps, no lucky dogs."--Me

Touch another car, both cars lose 5 laps. It ain't fair, but no discussion. As soon as Kenseth and Johnson, or Jr & Kez, or...lose a bunch of points, they will both be more cautious not to touch anyone or anything after that. And it will come up in every Monday morning meeting on every team. 30 points is not something you want to give away trying to gain one point in the pits.

"So, in essence [NASCAR is]...not concerned about it"--ExII

Precisely the point, sir. They state that they are concerned about safety. And they are. Like belt safety right after Big E bought it in a car that was hardly damaged.

                Fred,

I despise the rubber padded air bagged electric powered kumbaya playing chitboxes that pass for cars these days, and the mentality that created them.

But this is not an excuse to promote an ultimately non-free existance. This is trying to keep someone's Dad from getting maimed, dismissed, and limping to his next job for the rest of his life.

And usually it is leg injuries. There is nothing to stop a brain injury or worse.

Still, it is only my opinion, and you all are certainly entitled to yours.

Joe is very impressed with Fred!

Why do they have a pit road speed? They didn't used to.

Tires leaving the pits? Jack bolt wrench?

All of those are penalties are to theoretically protect the crewmen, and yet, the pro "anti-protection" types are getting along okay with those.

But hit Bubba? That was the job at hand --and has yet to really be addressed--and somehow we/NASCAR are still cool with that.

Why not skip the plates & run 220mph at Daytona, and, y'know, cars in the stands are okay also. In between mass carnage, that would be far racier and "rules free racing" like than smoking the brakes for the last 10 feet and plunking the occasional crewman. I know, I attended many pre-plate races, and only a few with plates. Comparatively speaking, they ruined the show in the name of safety.

Just have the fans sign a disclaimer. Make them read it and state that they understand what they are getting into on tape for future liability claims purposes. I gar-un-tee that the longest line would be to sit on the far side of the finish line.
