Jim, the problem with that dumb flag is not that it's racist. And it's not that the people flying it are racist. Well...some of them aren't. That flag stood for something very different in it's day than it does now. And it stood for, and still stands for something very different for African Americans than it does for whites. So you finding nothing wrong with it doesn't mean others aren't seeing a lot wrong with it. If that flag illustrates your heritage, it also illustrates the black heritage. Not to mention the countless lives that were needlessly lost in defense of that flag.
Show a little empathy for your fellow man. Or don't, and keep the confederate flag on everything you own. It's your choice because it isn't really all that important in the big picture.
Now as for nascar, they're just in the midst of their usual rush to be seen on the correct side of history. None of the hierarchy at nascar ever even noticed those flags, except to make fun of the " hillbillys " flying them, while counting the gate receipts. If nascar does nothing in the great flag debate, they're made fun of in the press. So they really have to make some gesture.

Not a single confederate flag, anywhere to be found either. What do we blame it on? The easy access to guns? Nope, some of the toughest gun laws in the country... Hmmmm......

Actually, the gun laws in Chicago are pretty weak compared to other large cities. Chicago has had major problems with gun violence for a long time.
But not a confederate flag in sight during any of the Chicago killings as far as i know. It was featured front and center in the church shootings by the killer himself, and used as an excuse for the killings. So it looks as though random, mindless killings happen for more than one or two reasons. Let's do all we can to stop as many of the reasons as possible.

I have never met a white person that states that the flag means hate. I own one myself. (the flag) Which black group complained about NASCAR? None...How do you know how your black neighbor feels? I don't have one. Do you discuss it in depth with him/her? Please share with the group.

I can think of many things that I personally disagree with in society, like gay marriage and other views, but I pray for those who disagree with me to change their view...a struggle for sure! Should they remove the rainbows???

Demographically how many blacks, Negros, African Americans, colored folk or whatever the name of choice is this year attend NASCAR races, watch NASCAR races, or really care? Negroes are about 13% of total population in the US.

Classic example of the tale wagging the dog...for the politicians to play with to get votes. Mob mentality.

We allow all sorts of disgusting porn in the US but worry about a flag or a word? Why doesn't he Speedway worry about closing the porn shop right before you go to the track?

Matt, it is VERY rare that I agree with anything you have to say, so include this as one I also don't agree with or even like. The flag in mention was never considered racist until the KKK used it in their ceremonies and cross burnings. Blacks and whites fought under that flag for the South for several reasons, and one reason was not slavery. The Northerners owned and traded slaves as my ancestors did in that time. The war was for independence from the North telling us what to do to suit them. Race relations have gone to hell in the 6 years this bozo has been in office. MLK is rolling in his grave right now. This country was ready for a black president, we just got the wrong one.
