  • Rico Abreu

I see Rico has one a K&N race in just his 9th start. He was the pole winner and led the most laps so it does not sound like a fluke. I knew he was great in open wheel but was beginning to wonder if he was having difficulty transitioning to fenders. Some do have trouble especially if they drive off of there front wheels, I guess that is not the case. With Kyle Larson,Erik Jones and Chase Elliot the future is bright as far as talent is concerned so now lets see if NASCAR can get their head out of their ass and learn to put on real races.

    the story from ESPN.com:

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Rico Abreu has earned his first career stock car victory, racing to the win at Columbus Motor Speedway in Ohio.

Abreu set a track record in winning the pole for Saturday night's NASCAR K&N Pro Series East event. He then held on for the victory.

Abreu is the reigning USAC national Midget champion and winner of this year's Chili Bowl Midget Classic. He made his stock car debut at New Smyrna Speedway in Florida in January, one week after his Chili Bowl victory.

The 22-year-old Californian is 4-foot-4 and weighs about 95 pounds. He was born with the condition of achondroplasia, a genetic disorder of bone growth and the most common cause of dwarfism. That means he and his team have to make alterations to his racing machines, but surprisingly few. Pedals and the steering column are extended and his racing seat uses less room behind it, but that's it. He uses foot blocks to build up the accelerator area so he can drive.

Close friends and Sprint Cup regulars Kyle Larson and Ricky Stenhouse Jr., who both raced against Abreu in midget cars, congratulated him via Twitter.
