  • Remember these?

I love this picture: it shows 2 relics that are seldom seen on modern racecars, even in the beginner divisions. Does anyone else miss unpainted steel bodies with torch and weld marks? How about bungy cords that held hoods and trunks closed? I notice....and still miss them.

Someone posted this picture today of my brother David. This was one of his first nights as a driver, and was in his home-built mini stock. That was taken 12-9-72 on the infield dirt track at Hialeah. Simpler days indeed.

I have read about those days in history books...the pre-bone age era....

The body may be unpainted but he has a great paint job on the roll cage.

And spray paint numbers! I always liked that "just finished on Saturday afternoon look". You drive it onto the open trailer, and get to the track just in time.

if I am not mistaken that looks like a 1958 English Ford Perfect. I was given one by my parents when I got out of high school in 1966.

Yes, racing at De Soto this weekend. I've got two new tires, made a few engine tweaks and hope to dial in the chassis. Should be a good night!

Good luck, Rex! Sadly, we are not on the card with you this time. Ask Denny to rectify this omission for the future. A SUDS meeting is long overdue!

I never painted or took a photo of any of my cars until they raced for the 1st time. And sometimes it took a few weeks to get it done.
Normalcy is a myth. what is perfectly normal for the Cheetah, Becomes absolute chaos for the Antelope.

Am pretty sure there were some cars that Harry Pullen and JD Lewis never painted.

Anyone remember the '57 Hemi Desoto that Harry tried for a little bit? Fast once it got going, but there wasn't room to get it going on a quarter mile track.

But that mile long rear quarter panel would "drift" the guy next to him right off the track into the dirt!
