    RE: SK mod "sound":

Yep, I done been to the world series and seen them cars.

Often, they have run them with the high powered jobs at the same time (cost must be astronomical) and they, understandably, seemed...lesser.

Probably the same as emods vs "regular" florida mods.

Again, though, they sometimes run sportsman cars on the same night as late models and yet they are still cool and sound good in their own right.

    A curiosity...

I have seen the SK cars run over at NSS a couple of times. And no, they sure didn't sound flat. I always thought the tour mods were the best show during speedweeks. Not that the Super Lates aren't great, i just thought the tour mods and SKs put on a better show.
Now that's a rule book. Not a lot of wiggle room. If any track owner in Florida is considering writing or re-writing a rule book, use that one for a template.

Well, hell, Phil, that ain't cheaper...

"You can build a turnkey SK mod up here with top of the line everything for probably about the same cost as one of your OWM mods, maybe a couple thousand cheaper."--Philmore

          How does that work, exactly?
Our Spec engine is cheaper than most of the big FL engines. The Built engine here is being slowly phased out. There aren't many running them anymore unless they already had one.

Our rule book here are EXTREMELY complex and tight. I attribute our competitive racing to that. There is not much room to get a huge advantage. It's a catch 22... It's a pain in the ass to make sure each and every rule is followed in the book, but it makes things better in the end.

Oh and OldSchool, we have a division here called SK Lights also... I equate that to an emod. They use the same engine/carb combo as an emod but put on some fantastic racing because of the tire. Everyone I have talked to describe them as a giant gokart. More grip than you need for the power so it ends up becoming whoever has the biggest balls. SK Light races can get pretty good.

BTW, it was $300 for 4th. Cash money. You don't have to wait a week for a lousy check with state taxes taken out. Not like the cheap ass yankee tracks. What does the Speedbowl pay for fourth in the Sportsman??????

LOL! I was wondering how long that would take

I dunno what 4th pays for sportsman at the Speedbowl... I know it's $250 to win, but for some reason we still get 20 cars or more most nights...

I know Thompson pays $200 to finish 4th lol

Street Stock (Sportsman) Tour had a race Saturday in New Hampshire so we had a light car count there. Which actually proves a point I made a long time ago about touring series thinning out weekly divisions lol

Yeah, no worries there. Nice to see the car counts at Desoto starting to climb in the direction that NSS is enjoying. 23 there and 13 at DS on the same night is promising. One thing is for sure, this new tire we are on has absolutely nothing to do with it.

Let's bring it on home--to you

"Oh and OldSchool, we have a division here called SK Lights also... I equate that to an emod. They use the same engine/carb combo as an emod but put on some fantastic racing because of the tire. Everyone I have talked to describe them as a giant gokart."--Phil

                            Sounds more like a giant Mod-Mini. Or a go-cart sounds like a mini mod-mini...

At any rate, here is a question for you, Phil: I am rather surprised that all of the tires are close in cost but given that, would you like to put 15" wide tires on the bad-a-mont-a? (let's ignore the tires sticking out of the fenders, though that was cool in the 70s)

If so--or if not, please elaborate.

SK Light is a full blown SK modified with a 602 crate engine. No less no more. To the eye, unless you know the couple small give aways such as a smaller exhaust and spec shocks, you would not tell the difference between an SK and SK Light.

Part of the fun of the cars I drive, is the fact that we push 400hp to an UN LOCKED GM 7.5 rear on 7" treaded Hoosiers. It takes a great blend of man handling and finesse to drive one of these things. I would not trade the package we run currently for anything. These cars are pure perfection. The Un Locked rear really creates a huge challenge.
