  • Modifieds of Mayhem @ 5 Flags Friday night

was wondering if any of the OWM guys around here were going to head over to Pensacola for this race?
seems like they have been getting pretty good turnouts for this series- around 14-15 cars
I don't know how the rules compare to the local OWM rules or what tire they run, but I imagine it's what the Snowball rules are

seems like I've been driving a long way lately to see some racing- Pensacola(SSS), Albany(STLMS), Cordele(SSS) the last 3 weekends, now back to Pensacola this weekend
as someone said in another thread- if the show is good, folks will make the drive....

Not 100 percent sure, but I think they run the 750 tire.

oh well it looks like no takers for this race on a Friday night....
when I was growing up in MN and WI we used to race 3-5 nights a week during the season- I guess guys are saving it for Auburndale and Showtime

It's a looooooooong way to tow.

Seems like the fast guys from NSS would do well up there, though.

That's a tough deal to go up there because it would definitely take some financial planning for most of us. LJ and I are planning on racing at Showtime and then loading up and heading to Auburndale and making their 50 lap show Saturday night. Fortunately, both promoters are working with us a bit to make it possible.

We both are also hoping to make it up there for the Snowball race, and hopefully a race before that to prepare...but that's still a long time between then and now, and a lot can happen in that time.

I agree but at last year's Snowball Derby Modified race all the Central Florida drivers were the West Coast guys and they all ran pretty well for the most part.

                Scott,

Interestingly, when Bithlo was doing pretty well the same cars ran Bithlo and New Smyrna (for the most part), even though the gear and setup was different.

And yet, both then and now, it seems like it is rare that the NSS cars venture to other tracks.

                Loyalty? No setup changes?

I have seen the "west coast" cars at Citrus, Auburndale, St Pete, Desoto, and some of the late models at NSS.

I guess the "07" is the exception, lol.

I enjoy travelling and the challenge of running different racetracks. I love racing at Desoto but I kinda miss that this year. In the few short years I have been racing in FL I've been able to race at every asphalt track except for Punta Gorda, Showtime and Pensacola. With Desoto closing for July and August I'm probably going to go somewhere. Maybe even your favorite place, if a few concessions can be made. I've got a friend lobbying for that so we will see.

                      I was gonna say...

As long as they are your concessions you will be fine!

I always thought that a guy ought to be able to pull in, run, and then if they place in the money be DQ'd and not paid if they don't meet the rules.

At least you would get to race.

I don't show up knowingly illegal. In 22 years I've been dq'd once for an aluminum spool that I didnt know was in a used 9" I bought. (Aluminum spool illegal up nawth). I think it is an embarrassment to be caught cheating. Either he can make a minor concession to let me run or not. Either way I'm fine with it. There are still a few choices of racetracks left to run at.

                          Oh agreed, for sure.

I meant, say a guy has the incorrect tires and can't afford new ones and everyone agrees the tires on the car will not be an advantage. That sort of thing.

ps--What bad luck having your spool, of all things, checked...

Lmao, Lurkin. Nah, it was luck of the draw. We had been teched a few times for other stuff. This night it was the rear end chunk. It was ok. I didn't bitch. Just took it in stride. At Stafford where it happened they confiscate illegal parts. I asked "How am I supposed to get the car in the trailer with nothing to hold the axles?" (not a floater rear). They allowed me to surrender the part the next week. We made a joke out if it and put the spool in a box with large letters saying "CHEATER PARTS" on it and put it out for everyone to see the next Friday night before the officials came and took it. We were DQ'd out of second. We put a lightweight steel spool in the next week and that night I won my first Late Model feature. It was pure vindication and made the statement that the illegal spool is not what made me fast. Sorry for the story. As Philthy sez, I'm oldddd...
