This way he can afford to pay the Arutes the extortion money required to be "approved"...
STUPIDEST RULE EVER! That's where FL has a MAJOR advantage over this place... You should only have to buy the engine from GM, slap on your carb and accessories and go race... Not go take it to a "builder" to seal it and... BUILD IT... It's not a crate anymore... STUPID!

      • And you think our promoters are greedy when they buy the tires the competitors want.

You guys can just afford your promoters!

ps--You want tax with that order, sir?

The whole engine deal here started because one person broke a brand new motor and the track allowed an aftermarket piston to replace the GM ones because GM was backordered on parts at that time. It snowballed from there. It's high time that gets back under control but now the engine builders and tracks have this giant monopoly. The funny thing is though, the engines here are still cheaper than most of what I hear of and have talked about with builders there... Which is sad. I bet my $4500 sportsman motors would run with or outrun any of the built motors down there that builders charge 7-10k for... Just sayin.

          • We have that too though Phil just not as bad. Most of the crate motors are gone through or built by McGunegill, Hamner, and Phil Harper. Go out there with an out of the box 604 and you will likely not be competitive...although I talked to a builder the other day and he said the Ford crates are making pretty much max power they are supposed to right out of the box so who knows. But that is just like anything else in racing, someone is going to outspend you and have an advantage, just look at what you said about the SK spec vs built motors. However I always read that the SK division was created as an option for the guys who don't run tour motors, well at 20K an engine you can buy a new spec motor for the tour for 26K from Yates and be competitive on the tour. Sort of like Pro lates VS Super lates here, the only difference is the motor and in all honesty it's not that much of a difference, 12K for a brand new crate and 18K for a super spec motor. You might as well run the class that the payouts are higher and the drivers are a little more skilled, meaning you have less chance or tearing up your shit.

            • Phil, would you be racing if the motors were $12-18K?

We all want more cars, this ain't brain surgery.

              • I absolutely agree. Costs EVERYWHERE have just ruined what this sport was all about when it started. Sometimes progress is good, but other times, it can really be damaging. In a lot of ways, the progression of technology in and around our sport has hurt us more than help us. Rising costs have really affected a lot. I have taken 3 years building my car.

Scott Garrity, care to tell everyone what you think of my car? You've seen it... It's just a little old G Metric... Right?

Yeah, just an "antique monte carlo". Lmao. Honestly I have not seen a nicer and more importantly SAFER Street Stock type car EVER. LaJoie Seat, collapsable column and just immaculate . That car would be safe enough to race at Daytona, nevermind Thompson. Post a pic, Philthy.

At Stafford the Arute family is greedy in IMO. Different rules designed to trap you there, 2 rule changes a year conveniently timed after the two biggest racing swap meets in NE so that you have to buy from the tracks official supplier (to justify the kickback) and overpriced spec and crates that have to be sealed by the builders (to justify the kickback). Karma is a bitch and it's finally catching up to them.

I don't feel that any track owner is greedy in FL, despite what you read here from some. They are just a little misguided at times. I don't see any problem buying tires from the tracks. The prices are pennies different from source to source. Same with race fuel (if your car needs it). Entry fees are a shell game imo. I feel like you just need to take that out of the purse. Take that $50 or whatever right off the top and use that person collecting the money to do something productive like maybe doing the handicap. For the most part owners here are losing money and are in this game because they love the sport. I never lose sight of that.

                        • We did everything in house including chassis and body. At last count, I am roughly 20k in with pretty much everything on this car brand new... But this is what you have to do to be competitive in racing these days.

This is absolutely a huge factor in declining car counts across this country. Up here, this is considered an entry level division of sorts by the track, but over the years, it's become a division for the true diehards up here. The worst part of the whole thing is, even though I will probably never sell this car because so much can transfer over to a FL sportsman, if I were to try and sell it turn key I would be lucky to get $7500 out of it.

Or you could run it at Volusia as a hobby stock,,,the payout is a lot better and you wont have to put tires on it every week .
