"Nascar didn't invent double file restarts. .... that's been a short track policy for 100 years." --Frasson

Perhaps I stand corrected, but I have been going to short tracks for about 100 years and cannot recall that (of course, there are a lot of things I cannot recall...).

Where and when was that happening?

I (think I...) remember shortly after Ricky Rudd spun someone out at a road coarse that when he came around for the checker, he got a black flag and the next guy got the checker.

Within a month the same thing happened at NSS in a hobby stock race.

Pretty much every track in the Northeast, starting in the very beginning and continues today.

Heat races also... no time trials. The DIRT Mods, back when we raced, only had 1 racer per year that had "qualifying" and that was Syracuse. Every track every week, no matter how big of a show it was, ran heat races.

without racers there is no races . three of four got to a dry lake bed said I can outrun you fans did not start it. most payout windows pay out of pit side. fan money grease owners pocket. why they own tracks. i never had a sponsor. I do not speak for anyone else. Dave O'Steen

Okay, the Southern Tracks followed NASCAR...

That 'splains it. Been in Central Fl since the 50s.

Saw a few races up north along the way, and still don't recall it, but certainly will take you at your word, for sure.

Also, a big thumbs up for heat races. Unless it is a *Big* event, and even then would prefer heat races.

          (Bobby Diehl, ya there...?)

In fact, believe even Cup should cut out their "cat-and-mouse-is-it-worse-than-before?" qualifying format & run heat races.

Invert the Points and line 'em up for the heats, then the finish in the heats dictates the lineup for Sunday's events.

Will it happen? Probably never, but hey, the did go to double file resarts...

"Without racers there is no races."--Dave

Agreed, and thank you for your part again.

BUT, it is not entirely factual, as one can see the sporty car races for free, or street races for free.

And there is Cup, which NO one short of Gene Haas can afford to run out of pocket. It requires sponsorship, which is 100% supported by the fans.

Further, that is another hat the Promoter has to wear. Rules to keep the races interesting for the fans, and rules to keep the racing cheap enough for the racers so that enough of them can afford to come back and fill the field.

It is in fact a three way street, and for sure the short track racers are taking the biggest hit--just not the only hit.
