Once again the Indy cars provided the fans with close dramatic racing and all without bogus debris cautions or double file restarts. While I certainly was no Montoya fan during his NASCAR days I will give credit where due. Hell of a job to come back from 2 incidents and a drop to 30th and still win the thing.

if you race your a$$ of to get the lead why should you have to fight on restarts. dirt does it best, out front by yourself.2nd &3rd side by side is way to go. one day paved tracks will go that way. only fair deal.Originally posted by OldSchool+ View PostGreat aero package that promotes drafting--& the correct amount of drafting--at Indy right now.
I would prefer they do double file restarts, but just my opinion.

Because like any tire, or wing, or displacement limit, it would be a rule, and the same for everyone.
Why make it a rule? Because it is entertaining for the fans, who either directly or indirectly pay the bills.
Best thing that ever happened to short track racing: NASCAR went to double file restarts and the short tracks followed suit.

That was a hellava race. The last 15 laps were as good as racing gets. I'm noit really a Montoya fan either, but he sure deserved that win.Originally posted by egspeedway View PostOnce again the Indy cars provided the fans with close dramatic racing and all without bogus debris cautions or double file restarts. Indy car managers have definitely got their aero package right in that it promotes drafting and passing at the same time. Nascar hopefully will figure that out one day. There current package does not promote good side by side drafting especially when you can position your car to take the air off of a competitor and cause him to spin with no contact involved. They have turned Talladega and Daytona into a single file freight train. Given that you can sit by the railroad and watch Amtrak and probably see just as many wrecks.

FANS NEVER PAID ANY OF MY BILLS. indy cars do not start 2 wide ,leader out front. good racing. DAVE O'STEENOriginally posted by OldSchool+ View Post"if you race your a$$ of to get the lead why should you have to fight on restarts [?]"--Dave

Glad to see I'm not the only one who realized this. I was watching double file restarts at the short tracks back where I grew up, since I was born. After half the race was complete, it would go single file. I prefer the Deleware style restarts myself. It allows the leader to keep the lead, yet provides for exciting racing at the same time.Originally posted by Frasson118 View PostNascar didn't invent double file restarts. .... that's been a short track policy for 100 years.
Don't give them ANY credit for that. All they did is pull their heads out of their asses to finally understand it creates better racing for both fans and drivers
Do you have a track to race at? Do you get any type of a purse? None of that would be available without fans, unless you want to pay a lot more. Sorry, but fans have paid a huge amount of your bills. You just don't realize it because you've never had to pay for them.FANS NEVER PAID ANY OF MY BILLS. indy cars do not start 2 wide ,leader out front. good racing. "FANS NEVER PAID ANY OF MY BILLS."--Dave41
Dave, I know the bills must be...overwhelming at times.
Try to see the big picture though. Sports car and drifting the car owners pay for the venue, 100%.
But in stock car racing--Get money at the payout window? The spectators made that at least partially possible. Get money from a sponsor? It is because the sponsor believes that they will make more money than they are giving you--from the fans.
Bithlo is a perfect example. They essentially have no fan base and the pit gate (I don't know if they charge for fuel or tires, but regardless) will not keep the track going. Therefore, there is no place to race at all.
And so, it is a mutually rewarding relationship, and it is the track's obligation to provide a good show, and the primary way they do that is with (wait for it...) rules that are conducive to providing that show. Including double file restarts, inverts, and motor and car rules so that it is a group of cars competing and not one or two running off.
Back to you and your buds...thank you for all that you do.Last edited by OldSchool+; 05-25-2015, 05:50 PM.
