    Wow. You guys are old!!!!!!

Now, to jump in... My first exposure to racing was short track... At Islip speedway, then riverhead... Then NASCAR... Which I affectionately call soap opera for men..

Short track racing in Florida is a cross between jerry springer... And Maury Povich....

    I'm changing the channel..

Wanna know what's wrong??? Look,in the mirror folks..then count how many kids you are bringing with u on Saturday night. Hence why the younger generation is not interest.

Rex, this doesn't include you... You carry on the tradition honorably. I hope your son is doing well..

    Bye

        "Wow. You guys are old!"--Katlizy

Yes, we are in "the lead." Only one way to avoid that--to "blow up" or crash out...early.

Everyone kicks the bucket. The ones that live a long time "win". And if you are still medium-young, you never know...

        "I'm changing the channel..."--Kat

Presumably from fla short track racing to..."My Kat from Hell"?

I know someone with an '85.

Those cars were the last of the cool GM "A" bodies, IMO.

Over the years I don't know how many kids I have taken to the races. I know I don't have enough fingers and toes to count them all, even if I used someones else's fingers and toes. I even took my kids and foster kids to the Cup races at Dover. I read your comment and got to thinking about all those I took and most of them loved the races when we went. However, I don't believe any of them are fans now. I'm still in contact with some of my foster children and they will mention the "good times" we had at the races. Most of them have their own families now, and adult responsibilities. I don't know why the racing bug didn't hold them. Next time I talk to them, I have to ask if I remember.

I see that Bruton Smith is making an attempt to gain more fans. There is going to be a nascar hauler parade in downtown Charlotte prior to the running of the upcoming races there. Tell me that won't get attention.
So why not a 10 or 20 vehicle caravan, pick up trucks towing OWMs, mod minis, sprint cars, and Late Models on open trailers ( the high dollar teams would have to borrow the open trailers from the less fortunate racers) thru downtown Orlando, or Bradenton/Sarasota, or Daytona/New Smyrna on a Saturday morning? All with banners promoting the races at the local short track including where, when, and admission prices.
On another note, the race that nascar hauler parade is trying to promote, is being broadcast on a channel very few people get. Bruton comes up with a good promotion, nascar promptly shoots themselves in the foot.

5-10 minutes up the road from NSS,Port Orange has their FAMILY DAYS 3 day event twice a year with carnival, vendors, car show, etc,,,An estimated 60,000 people attend each event. You would think that setting up a 10x10 canopy with some race cars and handing out some free tickets,discounts,t-shirts,advertising,etc,and some cars on display would be a no brainer....But hey, what do we know???

That would be a perfect place to get more people interested in oval track racing. Best part is, the racers would have plenty of time to mingle with the crowds, put young kids in the race car for photos, hand out driver photos, and all the items you mention. And i'll bet every city with a race track nearby has something similar to Family Days.
Of course they'd have to fire up a race car every half hour or so, the sound is the best part of racing.

You guys both have great ideas... I mentioned something along these lines last year and it got shot down. Everyone cried about how much it would cost to tow there etc... I would be the absolute first one to bring my car, even if I didn't get any kind of compensation. Hell, along the lines of Matt's comment, they use to actually drive the cars in parades up here. The kids hearing and seeing the cars driving got really excited. Kids are the ones that these cars will impact the most. Getting them out into the public eye more will certainly help in many ways. I am absolutely in 100% agreement with both ideas. Sadly just don't see it happening cause everyone wants something in return.

                            Ah'm Jus' Sayin'

Working 40-60 hours a week to pay for a racecar is time & energy consuming.

Working on the racecar is time & energy consuming.

Racing and then recovering from the physical and mental aspects of being at and on the track is time & energy consuming.

Trying to maintain a marriage and kids after all of that is time and energy consuming.

Finally, one may get to relax and maybe have a beer in peace.

Let me break it down for you Northerners...

There may not be enough time, energy, or inclination left to drag your stuff out to the barnum & bailey icecream-eating children-smooching social down at the local hardware store.
