Pro Modified

Put out there for some input. I talked to a number of drivers and they like it as well as a track owner.

Open Wheel Modified name change to Pro Modified, Florida Pro Modified or Southeast Pro Modified

We are putting on great shows with professional looking cars, this will help attract more sponsors for the racer and tracks will bring more fans in with the Pro moniker.

We run with windshields, open motors, we have different looks not like what they are doing in the Lucas Modifieds out West.

Would like feedback on this from the Racers, Track Owners and The Fans

I think it's a good idea Doug. I'd vote for calling them Pro Modifieds. The mods are already an exciting class, this would make it even better.
My own opinion is that they should look as much like the NASCAR Tour mods as possible.
I hope some tracks jump on the bandwagon.

Name Change is fine, but as far as rules and tires go, those need to be left alone. New Smyrna tried the 10" tire deal a few years ago with no success. The modifieds are probably the most competitive class out there the way they are now. 10" tires will just cost the racer more money, not only are the tires more expensive but we would have to buy 2-3 sets of new wheels

I like that class a lot, no matter what it is called. However, I can suggest a few other classes that need the names changed even more. Ready? How about "Pro Hobbys" (get it?) Giant Midgets, off-road street stocks, unsportsmanlike sportsmen, stock modifieds and the oval-drag figure 8's.

I agree OWM94. Just think that the mods have gotten way out of hand. What happen to the imca rules that the mods had when they first started in Florida. Had claimed motors. Was I good way for guys to move up the ladder without breaking the bank. Could take there streetstock or purestock motor and get a easy to work on Modified. A real race car. I like the way they are now scary fast. Big tires would make it interesting but feel the e mod class would take off if there was more of a difference. Not sure what that is. I would love a mod but not with the cost of putting latemodel or NASCAR engines in them. Crazy.

Back in the day there were modifieds and supermodifieds. Same with fendered cars. The fast ones were "late models". No pro, no super, no nuttin'.

To this day I think "yeah! they are running modifieds!".

The open wheel thing seems redundant, but am guessing when the mods came back IMCA decided that "open wheel modifieds" instantly painted a word picture for the uninitiated.

Given the current level of performance and expense that the teams seem to embrace, my suggestion would be:

Badass Modifieds

Somehow I don't think that will make the final cut...

Ya might wanna re-think the name change. When I first saw the title of the thread, I thought, "Why are they talkin' 'bout *drag cars* on KARNAC?" If I Google "Pro Modified", or look it up on WikiPedia, this is what I come up with:

So nows a good time to ask a few questions that have been rattling around in my head for some time. So on dirt you have your super late models and crate late models. On asphalt you have super late models and pro late models. So, anyone know why they call them pro lates and not crate lates? Also, what does the Pro really mean anyway? Pro level driver talent? Pro level race cars? Pro what?

I have driven/raced down a dragstrip a few times, and that was a good time.

But i just can't get into watching it. Sounds like you can & that is cool.

In fact, lets go with "Pro-Phil" from now on?!

More power to the guys who love drag racing, but I think there is a reason they named them "Drag". My first motorsport experience was with a '69 Roadrunner with a 383 my brother and I bought for $100 and turned into a drag car. We were partners, and took it to Gainseville for our first bracket race. As soon as it was over, I said to him, buy me out, I am done. Conversely, when I got into racing sports cars we were partners again, and after one driver's school, he said the same thing!
