Joie has a long list of successful achievements in the industry. More than that, he comes from a motorsports related family. He's not just a stuffed suit. More than I can say for a lot of short track owners and promoters in this country that are just trying to make a buck.

Here is the deal--the pay-to-play sports car crowd and the stock car guys are similar. And getting more similar as time goes on.

In fact, Mr Jacalone has been there, done that, and never mind the program, he has the cars to prove it.

It could be argued that the sporty bunch are even more dedicated, because (bizzarely) they are like the drifters--they don't need the glory, they don't need the check--they are there to race.

It could be further argued that --kicking and screaming or not--circle track racing may be headed there.

Some tracks are making their money on the back gate. The front gate won't keep the lights on in the place.

In fact, here is the Big Question: If ALL tracks in florida were closed EXCEPT Bithlo, AND it cost $150 in entry fees, AND there was NO payout, would they get a field every month or so?

The answer--in my mind--is yes, and although the cars and maybe the brand of beer is different, the mindset would be/maybe WILL be, the same as the current SCCA bunch.

Joie Chitwood, other than being the Kim Kardashian of racing ( always has to be in the media ) is a smart man who knows how to jump cars through flaming hoops, did good things at Indy, and is trying to do the same at DIS. Of course Joie is merely the face of the construction, he didn't design it, didn't pay for it, and won't i imagine be racing there. So let's not get carried away with the hero worship.
Actually, there are quite a few race facilities that are nicer, but you gotta hand it to the France family for trying.
If Joie were the only manager/decision maker at DIS, i'd be remiss in calling the management morons. But there's a lot of managing ( both above and below his pay grade ) going on over there besides the efforts Chitwood puts in. Nice try though.

You obviously don't know very much about how the nascar hierarchy works.
But, i'll play along.
They're morons because of the COT. Because of the poorly thought out qualifying process. Because even with the giant decline in fans, they're still keeping admission prices through the roof. Because they decided that the corporations were more important than the fans. Because they were forced to remove huge swaths of seating because people got wise to the fact that they painted seats in contrasting, random colors to fool the tv audience into believing the seats were occupied. Because they tossed Kurt Busch out with no reason, then agreed to let him back in while avoiding an apology. Because they decided money was far more important than fans, so they allowed their races to be broadcast on tv networks many fans don't get. Because they're sure that all the track ( and nascar ) needs for a big comeback in popularity is a makeover of the grandstands. Because they talk a good game about the importance of short track racing and then do everything possible to help kill it off. Because they micro-manage the pit stops to a laughable degree, throw phony caution flags, don't throw cautions when they should, have no consistency in their penalty calls, show favoritism, and are taking the sport that so many people loved, a sport that was built up to one of the biggest in America, and reducing it to pro wrestling in less than 10 years.

And lest we forget, because nascar was too lazy, too cheap, too incompetent,( pick one or all of the above,) to install safer barrier at Daytona in a spot that sure seemed like a place that drivers could hit, thereby badly injuring one of it's stars. Because as we all remember, or should remember, nascar drug it's feet for a long time in regard to using safer barriers, even though they were commonly used by other racing series for years, the results of which were injuries and deaths that could easily have been avoided.

The most expensive single day ticket at Talledega is $145, and if you sit in the lower grandstand the most you'll pay is $95 right at the center of the tri-oval. And there are LOTS of less expensive options than either of those. For a major sporting event that's not bad. And many races are cheaper than that, so I'm not sure what you're whining about? No, they won't accept your EBT for tickets at the gate though.

All I can say is that ARCA veteran Brad Smith is alive this morning because of the SAFER barrier. In a crash at Talladega yesterday similar to Kyle Busch's Xfinity wreck at DIS (but way more violent) Brad walked away. After watching the impact I thought I had witnessed another racing tragedy. Another life saved by SAFER...

I'm surprised that you don't know more about auto racing history. Actually, i'm not surprised at all, i've read your posts. Look up the history of the safer barrier use, pay special attention to the chronological history of it's use in the IRL vs nascar.
Once again, i stand corrected. $145.00 per person is totally reasonable for a ticket to a nascar race. $95.00, that's perfectly acceptable also considering the action packed show you'll get. You're even correct about much less expensive options. Staying home and watching it on tv for instance. Or even going to a local short track and paying $12. I happen to enjoy Daytona and Talladega races, but even i would have to consider those ticket prices just a bit steep. Looks like i'm in the minority though, every race at both tracks are a complete sell out every time.
I'll take your experience of not being able to use EBT for tickets as gospel.
