Chalk up another W for the Oviedo Mafia. Gonna be tough to squeak out a win this year in a Super, Pro or Sportsman at NSS if you're not one of these guys!

38 cars in 4 classes. Hard to sell that.
I heard that VSC had over 100 cars last week. Easy to sell that.
Look and see if the fix is right there .
NSS is the #1 track in the south to race at and has no car count.

Fix it the car count. The car count is coming up at all the tracks in florida .
Get your head out of the sand and get with it.
Hope I pissed you off and you get out there and show me how..

Just Read that Thunder Road Speedbowl in Vermont has over 40 cars in three classes show up for an open practice on Tuesday! They good more cars to show up for practice than New Smyrna can get for a full race card. That is sad.

It's not as bad as it appears. Pro Lates don't usually draw a ton of cars for 25 lappers, Mod Mini's are a dying class and the Bombers are a new division that is steadily increasing its car count. Super Stock count was ok. Revisit this after this Saturday when the mighty Sportsman class brings their 20+ car count. Don, do you think the tire change has anything to do with the resurgence of the Sportsman??? LOL!

            "The Mighty Sportsman"

I am telling you the last Sportsman race at NSS was the best race I have seen there in years, including Feb., including NE mods.

And I am not saying that just because Garrity is the SUDSmeister.

Was thinking (always problematic...), and not to offend those in either camp, but the Sportsman cars race kinda like the mods. ie--loose.

Between that and the cool throwback bodies, a great class.

They are the LMOT IMNSHO. First guy that figures out the acronym gets the internal fulfillment reward (ie nothing).

I wouldn't even throw NE Mods into that comment bud, NSS found a great way to destroy that... If they didn't have a stupid set of rules that makes the mod guys change their cars so much, you would see 25-30 cars come down... /rant

The sportsman class has been awesome this year and I just want to clarify, I was not complaining. I guess part of me wishes our weekly shows down here has more support from the drivers, so we could see a better show. I'm a big stickler when it comes to car counts.

                      what is a good field?

3-4 strung out cars not so much

3-4 strung out cars with 20 more being lapped not so much

8 or more in a pack 2 wide for multiple laps = a good field (in today's economy and environment).

True, car counts here are not as big as in New England but there are other factors here in Florida that make racing just as (if not more) enjoyable. There are many reasons for the smaller car counts but the biggest one IMO is 12 months of racing as opposed 6 months up nawth. I like being able to go racing all year long and the variety and number of tracks here is outstanding. I find the racing here is more gentlemanly also (not as rough as NE). Welcome to Florida, Ryan. Things take a little getting used to. But once you do, I think (like me) you'll prefer the racing environment here, as opposed to the northeast.

Roll your eyes all you want, Yankee Phil! Speedbowl sounds like it's headed in the right direction but I don't miss the ironfisted Arutes, the pain-in-the-ass Thompson Thursdays (mostly gone now) and the entire-life-encompassing-working-on-the-car-constantly weekly racing grind.

One of the coolest joints I have ever been to:

                              http://www.capitolspeedway.org/

Capitol Speedway, Alaska. Est 1978. Note --no light poles--it stays light up there late during the summer (the PA speakers were on the ground). Note the size of the grandstand. It was not full...

But the whole place (the pits could be seen through a chain link fence) felt like an afternoon cookout.

A couple of classes of hobby stocks and a limited sprint car class, as I recollect.

The people were all laid back, and the show was as well.

ps--The announcer was a dead ringer for mountain man (of Duck Dynasty fame). Before he could say "they are coming out of three" they were already in two. And it was no act!

pps--Check out the sprint car engine rules! They are made for Albee! Nonetheless, 100% small block chevys in the field.
