Isn't it great when something works! 22 Sportsman cars, two exciting and interesting heat races, and an outstanding feature. The wild and competitive pack of cars, especially in the feature, was breath-taking at times. I am so relieved that they didn't tear up a bunch of equipment, and I really don't remember anyone with major damage. I loved the finish: a green white checker, b@lls to the wall between two determined competitors, and it came down to a drag race off turn 4. Beautiful.

Hey, and the scoreboard worked all night!

Two concerns: one is a chronic problem, and the other is a heart-felt appeal to a track that I love.

First, there was no soap in the men's room. Yes, we have made lots of jokes about this over the years, but it really does need attention. Of all the challenges that local racing faces, this should be the easiest to address and eliminate.

My son and I went all the way down to the end of the turn one stands for the SLM feature; he likes to see the brake rotors glowing red. Anyway, I was watching the pit road flagman. He is standing at the end of pit road with a stop/go paddle. Why is he standing in the middle of the road?

I know the starter will not get on the track during yellows to line up the cars for safety reasons. Good! Do it with radios and signals. Why can't the pit road guy be safe behind a barrier and operating a set of stop/go lights instead of standing out there? He has absolutely no place to hide if things go wrong. The pit road is so long, it would be easy to get up to 60+ before reaching his location. What if a car comes flying down pit road with the hood buckled and the driver can't see well? (this happens a lot) What if a car over-heats and covers the windshield with steam and water? Accidents happen, and this man has no place to hide.

I am sure Whelen Engineering makes something that could be used for this location. Maybe a set of bright, flashing strobes that are either red or green? Please address this to avoid a terrible accident. If something were to happen, we would all look back and wonder why we didn't see this coming ahead of time. I understand that this is how it has been for many years. He was doing the job correctly, but accidents happen in the strangest ways. Lets get that guy out of the line of traffic.

It is lit, but not blindingly so, as well.

Maybe as at least a stop-gap measure he could stand behind the wall and have a "stop/go" sign on a stick, rather like the pit road signs on Sundays.

Donnie Williams' #111 got pretty beat up and will need to have the framed staightened... Said it was weird how the car just angled to the right and (I was watching) he had no help from Patrick... The car did have some left rear damage on it from an earlier incident, so something may have given way there...
30 different cars have now run the four Sportsman features held this year with 32 different drivers!

You are right Dave, I forgot about Donnie knocking the wall down. The point is, there was no widespread carnage, and I am sure that some fans went home excited about the next race coming up.

Joe, your new car ran pretty well!

Thanks, Rex. I really enjoyed it, and it drove pretty good. We have some kind of electrical gremlin that was cutting out the ignition off the corner and halfway down the straight, so if we get that solved I think it will be pretty good!
