Was in the pits to assist the Jacalone Racing Team at New Smyrna. Here are some thoughts:
>Sportsman--The class of the evening, for sure. Lots of cars, lots of diversity in the cars, two wide racing, cars routinely sideways in the corners. Not snap loose, just plain loose in their setup, and exciting to watch.
>>Garrity, watch out. Patrick Thomas has some slick new bodywork, and it seems to work well. Patrick incurred some damage to the center of the leading edge of the nose early in the feature and of course knocked some front downforce out of the car, but was nevertheless able to fight his way through the field for a great last-lap-win-by-a-nose victory.
>Late Models--In the first few laps their was an altercation between Rodgers and Tyler Scofield. Probably a true accident, it involved a spin by Scofield after his left rear quarter panel was involved in an altercation (!). Scofield was given his spot back, Rodgers sent to the rear, and there was no further drama. At all. The cars stretched out after that.
>Modifieds--A few incidents including two cars getting hung up on the front stretch with both cars being able to continue. Mostly Tucker and Symons chasing Brun to the checker.
>>Although Mr. Jacalone chased Ocalasp, he was unable to obtain any blue paint. Both men seem to be okay with that.
**Many thanks to Joe and the Jacalone Racing Team for their gracious invitation and hospitality. They were shaking down Joe's "new" car (see "Progress" thread) and overall it has lots of promise. It ran fairly strong and handled well.
Overall, a memorable evening at New Smyrna!
