  • NASCAR changes qualifying

NASCAR has heard the complaints of fans and racers alike regarding the silly new qualifying, so in NASCAR style they've reacted to all of those complaints. Effective now, they have decided that the cars will no longer be nosed into their position against the wall on pit road before qualifying, they will now be backed in instead. The change should easily double the excitement of qualifying for the fans.
On the subject of greedy track owners doing anything for the highest dollar amount, here's something i thought was interesting. Martinsville Speedway has had the same company supplying their concession hot dogs and chili for almost 70 years. Yes, 70 years. The dogs and chili have always been wildly poular with the fans. The company was shocked to find out that Martinsville Speedway is going with another company starting this year. In the words of Clay Earles,
"there won't be any difference at all in the taste, or the color of the new products vs. the old ones". So then why switch?. Smithfield ( sponsor of the Petty team ) offered the track more money i'd say.
    That's cold.

I think the new way will make it more exciting....

I believe it will get the excitement started quicker. The rest of the qualifying is much better than the two lap style.
Maybe it's not greed just business. How many Johnsonville dogs have you eaten? I have bought both (to support both). Maybe they need to support a Team or a Race? Seventy years of free marketing (from the track and media) doesn't help the tracks bottom line. Plus supporting a Teams product is why anyone can get sponsors. Congrats to Smithfield for getting the product to the Fans mouths. Matt please call me. 813-817-7223.

So loyalty has no place in the racing world, if you can't make a buck off of someone they aren't worth keeping around. That's a pretty sad thought Bobby. And your view is the view of most of the tracks in Florida i can think of. Most of them have been sold and re-sold over and over again. You suppose that might have something to do with your business strategy of not allowing fans, racers, and vendors " free marketing " if charging more and/or offering less makes more money for the track?

        It's all a sidebar of C-A-P-I-T-A-L-I-S-M.

It is a dog-eat-dog world (pun intended), and frequently the "losers" are trumpeted by social govt leaning proponents as casualties, and therefore the system needs to be replaced.

That said, everything else is far worse, there are far more losers, not only financially but physically as well.

And, ever heard of the state-sponsored Trabant Inline2 Racing Series?

Who hasn't heard of the Trabant Inline 2 Racing Series !!!!
The most popular SPEC engine series in mother Russia. Word is they patterned their racing after the Florida short track rules. Total secrecy about all aspects of the engine rules. Peasants are not allowed to know these secrets.
Russian SPEC motors and WEPYCF ( What Ever Parts You Can Find ) engines are legal. In the event of a protest, protesters will be imprisoned or shot.

Actually, they have a builder build enough for a season (and that requires quite a few).

Next year...they need a new builder, and the secret remains.

Jesse Jones hot dogs (old brand) small American owned company, Smithfield hot dogs (new brand) Chinese state-owned mega-corporation. The old dogs were red, the new ones are red in a different way. Yup, communism is indeed involved here.

                It is indeed ironic.

The Socialists are winning at Capitalism--over the capitalists.

I dunno, tariffs are said to be "bad", but so many industrys are just...gone, and we are a nation of borrowers/spenders, but lighter all the time on producin' things.

                What could possibly go wrong?

                    Matt,

It seems you have extra dogs in your freezer and Bobby is experiencing Hot Dog Inequality (HDI).

Please send him most of yours and an apology ASAP.

BTW, Martinsville is an ISC owned track (aka NASCAR, aka France family). Brian is using 'ol Clay as the fall guy on this Chinese hot dog deal (shar-pei's?).

I see where Len Sammons one the top columnists for Area Autoracing News has proposed the same thing I have been harping on for some time. Time trials, heats, a consy and a much shorter feature. In other words Saturday night with the big dogs at the big tracks. This format keeps performance at a maximum through each phase and go a long way towards ending long boring green flag stretches. My biggest concern now is if todays NASCAR fan was ever a part of Saturday night racing. For the rest of us I am sure it is something I would stay awake for. The alarm went off and I woke up.

You're right, but the France family sees it differently. If Bill Jr. were still in charge you might have a chance at getting him to see the light. But this bunch doesn't know racing and doesn't care to know racing. They know marketing, and they think that's the same as knowing racing. I remember reading back when USAC ran stock car races they used to run 250 mile events regularly. Makes more sense than 500 miles.
I'm not sure about the current NASCAR fan. Sometimes i think maybe there's a youth market for what NASCAR is putting out. But then the fans i see at NASCAR events all look pretty old. And i'm sorry to say that i don't see all that many teenagers at short track events. Kids yes. But their parents brought them.
