The "Spec" motor program was actually started in 1993 by SUPR. Then around 2000 the "S.E.A.L." engine program reached out to a few of the major super late model engine builders in the country to join their alliance. Some of the builders join their alliance and some of the builders broke away on their own with the specs from the seal program. That is where the Florida spec engine was arrived from. Here's a little tidbit on who the real originator of the super late model spec engine was. Several builders claim to have started this program but this was the originator.

I was trying to find some info on the Ford sealed engine and this was all I could find. It's a Ford 351 block with the stroker crank

Does anyone know if the weight is the same for each choice?

              spec

I believe in the saying, if you ask a direct question, you will get a direct answer.

All right, one more for ya:

Given a decent car, which choice would you say is the fastest--money aside?

Say at Showtime and at New Symrna.

                  Well,

That is kind of a hard question to answer. Showtime and New Smyrna are 2 very different tracks, at Showtime, you could run a steelhead or 9:1 motor and it will pull just fine. However, at New Smyrna the steelhead will probably get you to the flagstand.

If you are looking to have an engine that you could run at just about every asphalt track in Florida, I would have to say that the SPEC engine would be the best choice. It has enough horsepower to run at New Smyrna and to be comptetive but when you take it to a smaller track like Showtime, Auburndale and Desoto you will most likely have to restrict it down to keep from burning the tires off of the car.

Of course the engine is a small part of the equation, getting to the corners fast does no good if the car will not turn in a 9 acre field!

And the "steelhead" motor is the 11:1 you-build-um "SSPE" engine, correct?

Further, if the steelhead motor is one of the best choices at new smyrna, and you are not limited to a sealed SPEC motor, it would appear that with perhaps a camshaft change (or cam timing...?) it may also be the stoutest at the Auburndale/Showtime/Desoto tracks as well. Comment if you would like on that thought also...

You can now run alunimun heads on the SSPE now. Didn't at one time on the Florida Spec engine you had to run a 390 carb only?

That parts list doesn't look like anything that any engine builder couldn't handle. Most back yard engine builders too. So why the ultra exclusive club? All the engine builders in Florida left out so 3 guys could monopolize the engine building.
I notice that the engines CAN be torn down and inspected on the spot. That certainly makes more sense. Or did that clause get added in the last couple of days?
now matt get your pen, paper and phone ,figure it up to build with machine shop labor. keep you busy for a while. then you can inform every one you know what you are talking about.
