  • NSS Saturday

I have to say NSS did a very nice job Saturday night. The support classes ran features only and the TBARA (21 cars signed in) ran heats and a 30 lap feature. And the crowd wasn't too bad either. There wasn't even an invocation before the races, so they knew I was going to make it to church on Sunday!

It was neat to watch the Super Stock class. It was like watching a rolling history lesson on the evolution of the Monte Carlo!

I'm not sure who Blaze Martin is but he's got a heavy right foot with that TBARA sprinter. He was DeCaire's only competition until Tripper's girl made her car wide in the corners when Martin was trying to lap her.

If I remember correctly the top three for the TBARA race was 1. Troy DeCaire 2. Bo Hartley 3. Shane Butler. Blaze Martin spun a second time in turn one and pulled into the infield after having lead most of the race.

It's interesting to note that TBARA out-drew USAC's Pat O'Connor Memorial race at Salem, IN... TBARA had 21 cars... USAC (for one of their bigger pavement shows of the year) had 19 cars... Winter Haven's Brian Gingras was there... He won the third heat and was 13th in the 50-lapper... Check out the picture... Pretty neat countryside around the speedway...
In Knoxville, IA, they ran the 360 Nationals... Had around 90 cars over three days... FL drivers there were Kenny Adams, Bryn Gohn, Matt Tiffany, Danny Martin, Jr. and R.J. Johnson... Adams made the A Main but dropped out early... Tiffany finished second in the C Main and at least made it into the B... No one else did much... For a great rundown and pix go to Hoseheads.com and check out Bill W's Knoxville race report... He does an outstanding job... The 410 Nationals are next!!!

Blaze Martin was in Dave Steele's old car, thus his blazing speed. Sorry, I couldn't resist a good pun...

Not taking anything away from Blaze, he still has to drive it, but if anyone has seen Mr. Steele rocket around New Smyrna, you know what that car is capable of.

The super-high banks of Salem Speeway in southern Indiana, been there many times. The rolling green hills in the background are typical for that area, and what you see there is the golf course that wraps around the Speedway.

        Nice pic, Westerman!
