  • Three in a Row for Madsen at BRP - Sunday 2-8-15

Took in all three All-Star events at BRP this past week-end. Kerry Madsen #29 showed he is the guy to deal with this year as he swept the series. Lucas Wolfe made his first appearance Sunday in the #1 sprinter bringing the total to 24 All Star Sprinters who entered the series. Second spot went to #10H Chad Kemenah with Steve Kinser taking down third place. 19 Sprints on hand for Sunday's show. 11 Mini Sprints. Mini Sprints surprised me as I usually see 20-25 on hand. Saturday there were 17 who took the green. #8 Eddie Moss Jr was the mini-sprint feature winner. #77 Robbie (?) Smith took the victory on Sunday. Excellent crowds on Fri and Sat with a slight drop off on Sunday, which was the makeup date for Thurs. Back to All Star notes: Track record of Daryn Pittman set at 11:840 still stands as the quickest of the weekend was, you guessed it, Kerry Madsen at 12:069 on Saturday night. #87 Aaron Reutzel was not on hand Sunday as he used up his motors. Some great youngsters on hand including Caleb Armstrong in the number 7c. Also 12 year old Tyler Clem in the #14. My personal feeling was that a 12 year old doesn't belong on track with these guys but after watching how he improved over the week end I might be wrong. Seems to have Steve Kinser as a mentor. Steve Kinser very respectable with a 4th, 3rd and a 3rd. He seemed to get faster each night. The nine heat races for the weekend had seven different winners with Wayne Johnson taking 2, Tim Shaffer also with two, Danny Smith, Danny Holtgraver, Chad Kemenah, Aaron Reutzal, Steve Kinser with one apiece. Dash Winners were, Aaron Reutzal, Dale Blaney and Tim Shaffer. Action packed weekend with the bonus of watching Tony Stewart in the role of series owner. Very, very respectable as an owner and this series should continue to grow under Tony's guidance and expertise. Weekend well worth the money. Still miss the Zuber dog....fries are the best. See ya at the races !!!

There were a few Outlaw drivers in attendance who will be running at Volusia. Their trailers were parked outside the pits, so I believe that means they will be heading to VCS. The count at BRP was about the same as last year. Now the UMP mods have me a little concerned as only 27 made the BRP show. I know there were 70 plus of them at Volusia last year so I am hoping to see those numbers again. Of course there were several tracks running them this past weekend. Tomorrow night is usually the best deal of Speedweeks at Volusia. Admission at $20.00 for the UMP Mods (full show)and Sprint car practice. Hoping to get there tomorrow night.

Night 3 was kind of subdued.....until the features came along. I thought the sprint car feature was outstanding, and the mini sprints had a spirited, race-long battle among the top 3. I have always liked that track!

              katlizzy & Boneman

Hey Katlizzy, usually I will start the Speedweek deal with some dirt action. Wanted to see the All Star Circuit at BRP. Also wanted to hit Desoto on Sunday but with the Thurs rainout at BRP those plans had to be changed, as the rainout date was Sunday. I'm sure our paths will cross again at some point during Speedweeks. Looking forward to seeing you guys. Trying to get to VSP this week but that is becoming harder to do than I thought. Hopefully NSS for some Mods next week. Mr Boneman, I agree with you 100 per cent. The Sprint Main event was awesome and the little mini sprints had a heck of a race as well. Maybe the slow start was due to the track taking an extra hour to prepare and start time changed to 6 instead of 5. Seems to be very common at BRP. Poor Lucas Wolfe must have walked twenty miles walking back and forth from his pit to the track, checking on the readiness of the track. Kinser and a couple of other drivers were standing in turn one waiting patiently for the track to be ready. As always, it was well worth the wait as the show finished nicely.
