  • a couple thoughts about this weekend

Cool for NSS to get Rico in his debut (I'm committed to Cordele for this weekend) wish I could see it. History in the making I believe.

I'm going to Cordele for Speedfest- Watermelon Capital Speedway- it will be our 3rd year.
55 teams pre-registered between the PLM and SLM's

Speaking of Speedfest- Chase Elliot is back to defend his title, I wish Johnny Sauter was coming back....

Looks like none of the bigger SLM teams from Florida are going to race at Speedfest- guess they are going to the Pete Orr Memorial.
I hope that race gets a nice turnout of cars- I think there will be plenty of fans in the stands with Rico there!

Back in the day where I'm from (Minnesota-Wisconsin) guys would run 2 races back to back like the Orr Memorial and Speedfest without batting an eye.
I guess with Speedfest qualifying on Saturday that pretty much makes the double impossible, oh well....

Google says NSS and Watermelon Capital are 4 1/2 hours apart- any fans going to attempt the double?
As a side note I'm going to try and do the ARCA race in Mobile and The Rattler the same weekend in March.

With the Rolex 24 and these two awesome short track races- Let The 2015 Racing Season Begin!
Good luck and be safe to all the fans, drivers, crews and officials this weekend!

A few year ago, myself Jerry, Palmbayer (John) and his son Cake (Jeff) made a double header weekend between New Smyrna Gov Cup and a 300 lapper at South Georgia MSP.

Zero teams attempted both, and as far as we know to this day, we're the only fans that did both.

Back in the day, it was common. .. now, it's bragging rights

A few years back, both Sunshine and DeSoto ran Figure-8's on Saturday nights... Sunshine ran the Figure-8 feature just after intermission, then the guys would load up and head to DeSoto where the Figure-8 race was the last race of the night...

Dave that was when 2 tracks worked together and helped each other.

I would give serious consideration to trying to see both shows this weekend if I didn't have to pick up someone Saturday night in Tallahassee for Cordele on Sunday.

I remember back in the 90's the Florida Triple Crown was like 3 races back to back to back. Fri, Sat night, then Sunday afternoon.
Around '95 or '96 I saw an AllPro race at Volusia one night after seeing the Firecracker 400 that afternoon at Daytona- that was a long day, oh man I was shot! LoL!

I never got to see a race at SGMP but I've heard it's a great facility- is the track racey?
I don't understand why it is completely closed. I can see it not being a weekly track but I would think they could have 2 or 3 special/big shows a year.

wow, some serious adrenalin junkies right there!
The figure 8 races have always scared the hell out of me to where I can't even watch, LoL.
Raceway Park used to run them at the end of the night- man on more than a few nights I heard loud "BOOM" come from the intersection while we'd be loading up our car in the pits.
I was always surprised no one ever got killed....

I definitely could be wrong about that- maybe I'm remembering some Lakeland/Auberndale double header or something like that.
Never made it to the 3rd leg afternoon race so I don't know where that was held.
I do remember tons of cars and guys from up north- I think Butch Miller won one night and Jimmy Cope the next? 20+ years ago so again, I might be mistaken....
