Look at the trees on the outside turn. at the old Michigan Hartford Fairgrounds Track.

The tree trunks were painted white for safety.

The tree trunks are painted white for the safety WORKERs. This way when someone crashed they could tell if there was any sense in bringing out the ambulance.

I don't believe they had ambulances in those days. They had hearses. Before the advent of emergency care, hearses were often used to transport people to a hospital. That's all they did too. Just a driver and patient quite often.

IF I can find it, there was a track up North that had the same type Safety Wall. If I find the picture the driver is Sitting against the tree and the car is UP the tree. He was ALIVE not PART of the tree. My Dad took the picture in about 1938 or so.
