Without adverti$ing, it will be a word of mouth thing and crowds will no doubt be low for a while if the racing is good.
So low crowd count is understandable, and not a measure of success in and of itself. But it also sounds like the show...still needs a little fine tuning.
But hey, it's their deal. As long as Clean Cut Tree Service of Melbourne and whomever else is paying the track, it will bump along until it either gets better or stops altogether again until someone else with deeper pockets comes along.
Meanwhile, clearly, being a promoter ain't for everybody, and somebody is trying (and it ain't me), so more power to them.
Did I attend? No. Will I attend? I will probably wait for a good report from the blond lady in flipflops or similar and then give it some consideration...Last edited by OldSchool+; 10-18-2014, 06:45 PM.

ps--for the consideration of all those that think "we should support the track" --they had about 20 people in the stands.
20. So those are good intentions--but clearly--they just aren't adding up for much in the real world.
No biggie, but worth noting. No need to get frustrated over something that just isn't happening.
If one wants to support the track--go! Take friends and family. Suggest on the board that other people might also go--with zero expectations, and then get a hot dog and enjoy the show, knowing you did all you could--for a cause that is important--to you.

Hey. I can say it was a good night. Sure we can find issues with everything, but there were none that would stop me from returning. Old school, aren't you a west coaster???
Not sure if you would want to drive out unless it was a special event, but hey. The legends winter nationals will be at osw.. Come out for that!

Well I RACED there In the #12 strickliy stock. And my son RACED there in the # 37 4 cylinder. We both had a blast and so did all the RACERS I talked to. I may be a little bias becuase I won but one thing for sure was as soon as we were done with tech they handed us our money. More than I can for the last two people that put on the show.
I know Robert Skinner personally from RACING with him the last couple years and all he wanted to do is RACE and help other RACERS RACE. There was a EMT there. I assure Robert didn't didn't POCKET any money on the deal infact he told m he lost money.
On that note he said he's willing to lose money again just to try and get something going. The place didn't get broke overnight and it sure isn't gone get fixed over night.

Telling it like I saw it.
First of all I was happy to be able to race at OSW again. The night started out on a positive note but turned south from there. There was a dog running loose around the pits as cars are driving around for practice. The drivers meeting was uplifting and they stressed that they don't want any rough driving and we are here for fun. No PA system in the pits. Heats started a little late and in the 4 cyl heat 3 cars were wrecked hard. The 8cyl heats went off without a hitch. The intermission was way too long, nothing happening just alot of standing around wondering what was going on. I'm sure the few fans that were there bored out of there minds.
There were 3 Super Stocks but only one was able to race so they threw some V8 Strictlys out there with him and had him start a lap down having to catch and pass the field to win. One of the Strictly cars was out there just going slow into every turn and going up to the wall and hitting the gas so he can come down doing doughnuts. Over and over, he even did it as Art in the Super Stock was coming around and had to nail the brakes to avoid hitting him. We were standing on the hill wondering who the hell was that fool out there screwing around during a race and why is the track allowing him to drive dangerously like that. Then someone told us that was the promoter out there screwing around, nice.
During the 4cyl race during a caution one car chased down and spun out two cars under the yellow. That is a black flag at any other track but not here its just a "Hey don't do that,ok" and continue racing.
Now for the 8cyl race. All was good to begin with lots of side by side racing, clean passes. Now here comes Mr. first time at a real track impatient race promoter thinking hes still racing in a field with traffic barriers as walls. I'm racing side by side on the outside of the 32 car. Promoter is behind me so he hits me going into one. I collect it so he slams and pushes me sideways coming out of two, causing me to hit the 32 in the right rear panel. Lucky for the 32 he had a front wheel drive car so he was able to gas it and get it straight instead of heading nose first into the wall. I spin to the bottom of the track and the 180 car has no where to go but right into my right rear panel as I'm sitting sideways. The 180 car is toast, major damage to the strut tower and radiator. I got out gave the track officials a piece of my mind and then get nothing but blank stares so I take it upon myself to let him know how I feel by binging my helmet off his window net. As for the EMT wonder where he was hiding cause I never saw him,he never came to me to see if I was all right. No report filled in case I have an issue the next day.
Of course this is only my experience and those that had no problems will say they had a great time, just be careful that's it not you that gets trashed next time.
I won't be back out as long as that race director or promoter have anything to do with the track. I did not complain when Robert Hart ran the track, I was one of those that was sad to see him lease it out. I was really sad to see Butch and Barb Pierce,Scotty,Ralph and others leave the track and personally think it will never be close to the same as long as they are gone.
I'm sure there are many different opinions of the night and this is mine so if you were happy keep going, I was not and will not be out there again.

Goes back to my post, the TRACK had nothing to do with the race but pocket the money.
False hope,in desperation the ones that need to get the race fix ignore the facts before them. If,no EMT or fire safty units, you signed a waiver to race then some promoter who is racing is driving like hes drunk, putting other situationsrisk doesnt seem to be to smart for fans or drivers to keep backing a bad situation.I have no dog in this,I just dont except money hungry owner playing on a racers appetite to race.

Luis you aren't wrong at all it was a complete mess. To succede, improvements need to be made on all ends
With that said ill still be there racing everytime they are open because what's the point of having a race car that's sitting in the yard/garage?ROOOOOTAMANN!

Ok enough.. The track pocketed nothing ok! It was a skinner night only, they just provided the concession, facilities, and lights. Quit it ok

Louis, I was sad to see you get wrecked. Especially cause someone was fooling around. I hope it never happens again. For what its worth he knocked off the antics after that. Your helmet carries a good message, and I cheered for you when you threw it at him.

You want someone who can promote and drive, give Jimmy Cope a call.Originally posted by OldSchool+ View PostMaybe someone can give Robt Yoho a call.
He can promote...and drive.
Other than pocketing some quick money, what was OSW thinking letting a show like this through the gates? As though OSW wasn't already a very big joke. Imagine what the very few fans were thinking watching this. They took a chance on the old girl, paid their money, and were treated to that mess. You think they'll be back for any future races? Could you blame them if they didn't ever come back?
As i've said before, i really think it's over for OSW.
PS please don't ever sign a waiver of any kind to race somewhere that doesn't have a viable EMS.Last edited by Matt Albee; 10-19-2014, 06:54 PM.

Clearly, one man's garbage is another man's treasure.
One (or three) competitor's disapointment is another one's place to race.
Re: the track--it is revenue, just like the drifters revenue--it all looks the same in the bank.
Re: fans--they are done gone. A few just like the place and show up, probably a few more are related to the teams running on a given evening.
It remains a shame...
The "do not race if there is no EMT" is sound advice.
Some have been hurt--or worse--at Bithlo in years past.Last edited by OldSchool+; 10-20-2014, 09:52 AM.
