  • Lake City won't be the only Sunday race...Gov Cup Info

The Florida Governor's Cup weekend will be Friday November 21st through Sunday November 23rd. Friday night will be practice. We will qualify Super Late Models Saturday afternoon, race other divisions Saturday night and run the Gov Cup Sunday afternoon with one support division.

Once I finalize the schedule and purses with Robert, Jane and Ricky I will post all the details.

Hope everyone plans on being there!

Sunday! Man, I got lucky on that. Last year, I had promised my boys they could race in the Inverness Gran Prix (a karting event), and I was bummed out to see that it was on Saturday the 22'nd. I rarely miss a Governor's Cup, and now I won't miss this years either.

I've known this was in the works for quite a while now, but glad to see it's official. I believe it will increase the car counts across the board.

            Great move Kim & Robert.

How the hell did I *miss this* announcement?! :P

              Good to see.

Run the 200 *after* the support race.

                cool----

The old Red-Eye 200 new years race was always run on a New Years Day, wherever that landed.

The Old Florida Cracker 200 was always ran on a Sunday afternoon, also.

This news is good for Sunday afternoon racers and fans, for sure.

The last time the Florida 200 Governor's Cup was run on a Sunday afternoon, it was won by Florida veteran and all-around good guy, "Freight Train", Jim Fenton. He held off Wisconsin's legendary and defending champion, Dick Trickle for the victory. It was at Sunshine Speedway (now Showtime).

After Golden Gate reopened, the 200 was moved to the Friday of the Triple Crown weekend. In '81, it was won by Mike Eddy; '82 saw Jimmy Cope get the big "W". '83 had Orlando's LeRoy Porter in the winner's circle.

Jimmy... When the race moved to New Smyrna in 1988, it was run on Sunday afternoon for three or four years... Dick Anderson won the first two in '88 and '89 and Bobby Gill won in 1990....

As usual, I plan on making a weekend out if it, and grilling for many. Every year is a new mixture of rookies and veterans, but always fun.
Anyone who follows this board is ENTIRELY welcome & invited to join in.
We now have THREE chances to party. I'm in for all of them.
