Anyone know why so few Southern Tour guys participate? I think there were only 6 from the NWSMT.

From the run down Phil posted I count 17 cars with South designation. Just not a lot of the familiar South names like Brown and Miller.

Southern Cars never really seem to be as competitive with the Northern cars for whatever reason. Probably has something to do with the big names not coming to the show anymore from down south. Not really sure why that is though. I do know the Southern Tour has a different tire rule normally so I don't know if that effects how they build setups and if it leaves them behind the 8 ball so to speak having to make major adjustments just to get started at shows like Bristol...

I was going off the entry list showing driver home town.
I guess I don't understand how that point system works- do you declare at the beginning of the season which series championship you are chasing or just choose for this race which series points you want credit for?
Guys like Suess, Brunnhoelzl III, Bohn, etc are all from NY, NH, and NJ but collected Southern Tour points.

I am 95% sure that you must designate on your entry which tour you are collecting points for.

Both Danny Bohn and George B III live full time in NC, and Suess had a ride in a southern owned ride. Bertuccio is another who now, resides in the south, but has northern roots.

Another thing..... I believe the cylinder head rules are different from the north & south. Close, but not identical. It shows more on the high speed tracks like Bristol & New Smyrna than it does on the smaller tracks. Hell of a job by Burt Myers for putting his southern car on the front row against all the heavy hitters.

To my knowledge there is no difference as of this year. The Southern Tour recently adapted the Spec Motor rule as well which is the same engine the truck series and K&N cars run also.

As for Burt Meyers, that was an LFR chassis built by Rob Fuller (Northern modified royalty family) and a Spec engine. It was no surprise he was fast to me. I assume I pay much closer attention to the NASCAR tour mods than most on this board though because of where I live and how many friends I have running the north tour. I will see if I can reach out and find out 100% about the heads but I am pretty sure there was a rules change this year because of the introduction of the Spec engine.

Very well could be Phil. I'm going by what I'd heard, or read, a few years ago. It would make sense to go with the same rules as the North cars.
Thanks for the update.... I'm always open for learning something new.

Phil.... I had a few guests at the Modified Reunion this year from the 22 Chris Our team. Tommy Barrett, Mario Fiore and Greg Narducci (who makes it every year), so I've been on,board as a fan of this team since I heard they all teamed up.

Its cool to see people win that you've personally met. I'm a big fan of Ryan Preece for the same reasons, when he came out with his Grandpa Bob Judkins. Ryan even drove a restored 2X Coupe in the Vintage Mod session.

The Our team is a great bunch. I have known Tommy since his Rookie MRS year now, he's a great kid despite the haters and I think with that 22 team, he will go a long way!!! I always go to their trailer whenever I am at a race and eat very well lol!!! I also met and became friends with Ryan a couple years ago now. He is one hell of a driver and nice dude. His SK car owner from Thompson is even one of my Sponsors lol! Great bunches of people.

Mario is a very interesting character. I talk to him every time I am at the track and some of his stories are absolutely awesome. I am 29, but I love to learn all the back history of modifieds and racing in general. I too am always open to learning new things. The more you learn, the better you are in this sport I feel.

Motor rules in both Series are the same as is with the new Yates Spec Motor. The NASCAR Modified Rule Book states the same rules in all categories for both series.

Hopefully, this new package will let more South teams feel that they are more on equal ground for New Smyrna Speedweeks. The Myers brothers do a little traveling, as well as Hillbilly Racing with Spencer Davis.... but I'd sure like to see guys like Tim Brown, Danny Bohn, George Brunnhoelzl and Robert & Lee Jefferies come down.

In the past, they had to bring a sharp knife to a gun fight. Equal rules, on a neutral track..... could be very good.

Phil if you want to learn about Modified History then you need to make Jerry's (Frasson118) Modified Reunion at NSS during the World Series. Many living legends attend and there's also a nice display of vintage modifieds on hand too! I had to miss it last year due to personal reasons but I will definitely be there in 2015!
