  • VSP - All good but the timing

I wanted to commend the folks that brought together two series and put on a hell of a show. Lots of passing and good racing. They did what everybody else seems to fail to do and that is bring cars to the track and fans to the stands. Maybe lose the qualifying or change the format in a situation like we had. Another positive was $15 to get in - most other shows with that big of a car count and quality field are well beyond that - kudos again.

VSP on the other hand couldnt manage time to save their life, but that is what I have come to expect over the years from them.

I brought my 6 year old son with me and we bailed after the Rich Pratt wreck out of two. He was a trooper, dead tired, but still trying to pick the winners right up to the last race. Yes, Momma bout killed me for keeping him out so late, but he was thanking me for taking him as we went to the parking lot - well worth it!

Bubba, your right about the admission, the two tours working together and the time management. Where else can you have that much entertainment for $3 an hour ( I bailed at 12:30) ?

Its funny no matter who is in charge of Volusia, when they have a "special" event it never ends before 12:30. Now I know why they have the invocation before the racing starts. They know your not making it to church on Sunday and the invocation will have to do!

Why did they roll in the top after the heats ? I thought the track was going to be a really nice two maybe three lane racetrack. After they rolled it in it was a lane and a half.

Yea, the last thing I want is less racing actgion, so move everything up a few hours and still get the thing in at a reasonable hour. Do qualifying at 4 or 5 like they do at NSS during speedweeks and have the racing start at 7. That is my vote.

The problem with starting during daylight hours, is that the track dries out, becomes one groove, and is usually a horrible show for the fans. They almost HAVE to start late. You can't compare it to how an asphalt track would handle it.

Yea, even if they could just get the qualifying out of the way, then water it in again, it might be better. Good point though, a dust bowl would be just as bad.

I remember when they did that when Volusia was paved, they were real fast. Made the "super lates" look kinda silly. If they drag 60 into Charlotte, you guys are in for a show.

I don't think 60 would happen, but I'm willing to bet that they still bring more cars to that show than any Asphalt-based-series race this year.

Bubba was right about them making the "Super Late Models" looking silly. The body styles allow those cars to FLY around a racetrack. I don't think I can make that particular race, but I'm sure it will be well worth the price of admission.... have FUN at that show!

Yea, I doubt they will get those kinda numbers, although it would be cool. Even with 30 it would be sweet.

Back when VSP was paved, There was a guy with a bad looking number 5, his last name started with a Z (zeiss?) , he had it pretty well wired.
