Attention Drivers, Series Owner, Track Owners & Promoters, Sponsor
I am writing this today to address a couple things as the series director from Saturday Nights Joey Coulter Florida Pro-Truck Series event at Desoto.
First off thank you to everyone that came out to race, it for the most part was a great race, that got a little too rough at the end, but that sometimes happens.
I will begin with a couple things about the race it self. In the drivers meeting I told all the drivers if they are involved or cause the caution they will go to the rear, unless they stopped to avoid. So during the race there were drivers involved in the caution that tried to go back to their spots, and had people coming over to yell at me by the pit gate. I understand that when your hit and involved on the accident you are not happy, but I did what I said at the drivers meeting. Was there some hits, bumping that caused it yes, and in those cases they were sent to the rear or were damaged as well and went to the rear. If I say something in the drivers meeting and do it, I should not be yelled at. If I was to change it in the middle of the race after I said it then you have every right to be pissed at me. But I did not, the race was called as it was told. I do not like it when trucks get tore up, and there was something's that I will be addressing individually with some drivers, before the next race, but at the time the calls or results of the action was handled by going to the rear for the reason, or damage from the incident did.
Now for some things that went on in tech and to clear it up as I know how things are spread and change by the time they reach the later parties.
First off I have to take the blame for a Vacuum rule I put in the rule book that is incorrect. The 305 Built motors have not had a vacuum rule, I put it in there by mistake, off wrong information, that is my fault and I have big shoulders and will take the blame.
I will now explain what we did on this case to clear it up.
The 64 truck has the 305. We did vacuum according to what I had mistakenly had in the rules. The motor showed 1 below the rule that was incorrect. After I made a call and got some info, we realized we needed to check the cam lift. The cam lift rule is Chevy 305 – 474/510/230-240 @50 Critter and I did the lift and it was 466/502 which is below the limit. We made the decision that it was good. I talked with Jimmy Cope after the races and he agrees with what we did and that the Desoto Rules do not have a vacuum on the 305 because of the combinations you can have in the built 305. Crates have to run the proper cams according to the manuals, thus is why they have a vacuum rule and need to have proper cams.
Now to address an issue we had on the 50. Critter had two different vacuum gauges one showed 13 one showed 14 on Anderson's motor. I have a brand new one I had purchased for the series, along with a timing light to read and set RPM's I got mine out and it hit the 14 also, so it confirmed the gauge and the same gauge showed one below on another motor checked also. I will be clear Danny was willing to pull out his cam and have it checked, he offered that a couple times. But with the clearing up of the gauge issue, I feel we have done the right thing.
I spent time yesterday reviewing the vacuum rules, I made some calls today and confirmed some things and I feel what we have set as a vacuum rule on all the motors now is correct and I will change the 305 to read cam lift. Any time vacuum is on the board and is rolled if a 305 is in tech it will be tested for cam lift.
I want to end this by saying this, I never said I am perfect and I do make mistakes at times, I will always take steps to make it right and always try to be fair and not make hasty decisions. One of the reasons Joey wanted me to do this series for him is he likes the fact that I research and weigh things out before making decisions. He respects that I try to make sure to do the right thing for everyone involved. I ask you to forgive me for an error I put in the rules, and guess what there may be something else that pops up but I will always try to do the right and fair thing for everyone involved. I simply ask you to try to understand that. I will be posting this so that all Pro-Truck drivers understand what went on the other night, wanted to send this to our series members, and other involved first.
Thanks to all of you for allowing me to be a part of this, and be the leader. I really want to see this all work great for everyone.
