  • TBARA Srints at CITRUS 7/26/14 - Kempgems !!!

Citrus County Speedway hosted the TBARA Sprints this past Saturday along with an exciting night of racing for the support divisions. 30 lap sprint feature went to Mickey Kempgens in the #5. Mickey started on the pole and drove an outstanding race. He was never really challenged after lap 1. The #79 of Jason Kimball was looking to upset Kempgems and was running a strong second when he spun on lap #23 out of turn 4. Kimball finished 7th. Tommy Nichols finsihed 2nd after driiving from the 9th spot and Shane Butler put on another great drive to finish 3rd after staring 11th. Ben Fritz 4th (started 10th) and Dave Retzlaff was 5th moving up from 7th. Great looking field of cars and very professional show with fireworks lighting the sky during the pace lap. TBARA sponsors on hand with plenty of freebies. Congrats to Rex Hollinger for a great 6th place finish. 15 cars took the green. 3 caution flags in the event. The mod mini 25 lapper went down to the wire with Robbie Yoakam besting James Ellis at the finish line. Yoakam started his late race move while running 3rd on lap 20. Finally his 1x was aside Ellis and they battled for the last two laps, making contact just before the finish line sending Yoakam across the finish line sideways and into the first turn fencing.backwards into the first turn fence. Yoakam had come across the finish line sideways in first with Ellis #98 taking 2nd. #44 Lawhorn was 3rd. Both Yoakam and Ellis had a friendly meet and greet in the first turn in a great display of sportmanship after this hard fought battle. Pretty good car count at Citrus and a very good night of racing. Another large crowd on hand to witness the nights events.

Hope there were no dq's.(?) Results from Citrus matched mine so I am pretty sure that was the finish. Was really nice to see Ernie Teed in the #84 sprinter as well. I have watched him many times in the mini-sprints. Results are posted under the Citrus web site and have the date of 7-19 and not the correct date of 7-26. Street Stocks went to Bifaro in the #12, Pure Stocks to Welter Jr, Sportsman to Mike Smith, Mini Stocks to Bill Ryan and figure 8's to Lengell. The Tbara race had quite a bit of passing in the pack. Thanks....

Well Sir, I read the TBARA DQ man came to visit again...

Boy, a group in trouble and can they do any more to alienate competitors and fans? If they had mucho cars that's one thing but for a few cars, wouldn't you think that they could handle an infraction differently? You used to promote...would you continually do that, you know run off, your hottest driver, DQ winners...???

Think NASCAR would take a win from the first place car??? No, I think not...

But the current leadership of TBARA feels this is the best way to build fans, goodwill and professionalism with tracks...

I have to chuckle...me probably being older than many of you I recall the famous photo of Truman holding up a newspaper with the headline..."Dewey Wins!"

                to all

Thanks so much for the updates about the TBARA situation last night. So now I have seen Nichols #55 win twice, once at OSW and last night. I wish there was a way that we (fans) could know what we see is what we see, rather than finding out later about the DQ's. Also I have heard of dropping the white flag on an event, but never took it to mean that the flag would actually be dropped and end up on the track in turn one. Does anyone know if it hit the #25 sprinter of Heisler, he seemd very upset with the starter ? Was this the reason for the final caution at lap #29 as well ? Btw, there was also a few DQ's in one of the non-wing events at Citrus this year as well. Really glad the Mod Mini results held up as they had an excellent race. Well thanks again.....

But they have their own announcer! That's important, right!

We don't know what happened but the rule with me was try to check the cars as best as you can and get them right before the race. Then it is what it is after.
Im sure we will hear more in the feature on what happened.

Nascar did in the old days take races from the winner. After the bug TV contracts TV mandated that they couldnt change the winner so they went to fines.
I have taken many races away from racers and as a promoter didn't like it but if you don't make them go buy the rules no one would want to race with you.

It's a shame. I was gonna drive over for this show and then I remembered the fiasco that was the Speedworld event and I stayed home... Glad I did.

Both DQs were for soft tires with their new rules. Drivers not happy with them either. The 5 car was checking out and at one time, during a long run, had a 1/2 lap lead. I enjoyed all, almost, the races there last Saturday..
