Racing in the 60's and early 70's was about small time racing, even NASCAR. There were only a few drivers who raced for a living and had manufacturer support. That's why Petty could lap the field. With the owners and drivers involved today, that would not happen. They all would have the same access to support and equipment. Racing in the 80's was good. I enjoyed the thunderbird/boxcar races and competition. It forced GM to design a car that could be competitive with the thunderbird.
