  • Morgan Sheperd/Joey Logano Incident

For anyone that spent the weekend in the islands with a model and did not see the Loudon Cup race:

Morgan Sheperd, age 72, and Joey Logano, age 24 got together. Sheperd was many laps down and Logano was lapping him on the outside when contact was made and Logano spun into the outside wall.

The only coverage I have seen was long after the contact between the two. Does anyone have any footage of the moments leading up to the contact?

For all I currently know Logano clipped Sheperd. On the other hand, if Morgan's car suddenly moved up a lane that would be good to know also.

Am hoping we can be respectful of both drivers.

Didn't see it myself, but Morgan has been around a looooooooong time. He's not some boneheaded rookie, yet he's not on top of his game that he used to have.
I'm guessing that this was no more than a matter of bad timing.
The faster car, 22, found himself in a spot that he timed wrong.
Sometimes, the slowest car on the track is the trickiest to get around.

        Some thoughts:

        >As mentioned, there is no real video, or at least I have not seen it.

        >Therefore, lots of people have drawn conclusions and said things that I think are less than "classy".

        >How many times has a driver clearly been in the wrong--and yet blamed the other guy? The video confirms the story--or not--and there is no video.
This weekend, J Johnson proclaimed his tire pressure definitely was not low, yet his left rear looked like an old wrinkle-wall slick, for instance.

        >Name a driver that has not been at fault in an accident, yet there is a witch hunt over this deal.

My personal take is the general mood by many--is disrespectful to a good guy, a Christian guy, who has represented the sport well for decades.

        >Finally, it happens only rarely, but NASCAR got it right on this one.

He has great business skills too. His "Start N Park for Jesus" tour was brilliant !!

Anything for Jesus is kind of by default brilliant...

For instance, that campaign led to your thought--however brief--and both of us typing "Jesus"-- that others will read.

He has managed to get into major league races longer than most.

            I respect that.

I also think that he looks stronger on the track NOW than some past champions in the later days of their careers.

NASCAR is also being very clear here. They are about the little guy as much as the big--or the coalition of the big.

It was difficult to see what happened on the replay but for the sake argument we will say Morgans car slid up and made contact. Why would you pass a car at the apex of the turn when he is going so slow. Clearly there was neither ill will or intent thus it becomes another racing deal. It is painful to see a good car put out by a backmarker but it happens at every short track all to often also.

I like Tony Stewart. But one time he simply spun out at Daytona (or was it Talledega...?) as Matt Kenseth went by on the outside.

                Looked simple enough.

But Tony decided Matt "took the air off his spoiler" and drove through the grass to seriously "get even" with Matt.

I was surprised that no penalties were levied.

Point being, without a tape, I just don't understand why everyone is so quick to throw Morgan under the bus. Everyone knows about the "aero push", maybe that occurred here.

As I said, for all I know Logano clipped him. I have seen the leader clip lapped cars and crash out at short tracks.

Regardless, there was lots of room, and lots of places to pass.

Until I see otherwise, the responsibility is shared in my mind.

AND if a tape comes out showing otherwise, I will be the first to admit it.

Truth be told, I paid Morgan $23 and a sausage dog to wreck the punk.

In morgans interview he said his car was extremely loose, and when joey when buy tucked down on him it sucked him around. Happens all the time. Maybe he should of parked being 15 laps down, but they have sponsors to answer to also. If it were me I would of given a lot more room being I had a lot more to loose. Just sayin

Clearly Morgan is above that sort of thing at any price, but that there sure enough is funny!

                        This is worth checking out.

Am hopeful that today's generation of drivers would do the same.

Quite a man and quite a skater. For a period he frequently ran at Jacksonville on there weekly shows I regret that I was not able to attend during that period. He is in a group of legends like James Hylton Harvey Jones Rance Phillips and others who were competitive long after others had retired. Thank the all for the memory,

Not Seeing The Incident, only Listening To It On The Radio

I don't know who was in the wrong or if it was just a "racing deal".But it does offer up a question in my mind.Does anyone remember when the late Paul Newman raced into his eighties until insurers refused to cover him racing competitively at that advanced an age?

                              Zerofo--

Nope, but (no sarcasm intended) what point are you going for, sir...?

Assuming they are physically fit, I don't think what an insurance company thinks should be the deciding factor...do you?

ps--you saw as much on the radio as we did on TV.
