NINE DRIVERS VISIT VICTORY LANE FRIDAY NIGHT AT ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD

A midday rainstorm did not dampen things this week at Orlando SpeedWorld as
the skies cleared and temperatures cooled for a great night of racing action
    that included nine feature events.
Chad Pierce led the first lap of the Modified feature but could not hold off a
very fast Zach Harris who took over on lap two and never looked back in
winning his first race in the class. The entire 25 laps went green to checker
and Harris was well in front of Pierce at the checker. Shain Held came home
in third while Matt Jarrett made a late pass on Junior Beckner to claim
fourth. Beckner was fifth just ahead of Doc McKinney while Dennis Wheeler and
Billy Tokes completed the finishers. Harris and Pierce won the heats.
Whitney Poole led the opening 11 laps of the Pro Truck feature but spun on the
backstretch handing the lead and eventual win to Becca Monopoli. Monopoli,
who won the heat race earlier, led the remaining distance for her third win of
the year. Donnie Burkhalter made his first start of the year a good one
finishing a strong second while Poole recovered to take third. Eddie
Lichtenberger was fourth trailed by Kelly Ross and Rich Cordis.
Heat race winner Ron Gustafson and Austin Carr put on a great side-by-side
racing show early in the Sportsman feature before Carr took over to score the
victory with his new car. Gustafson finished a close second ahead of Steve
    Barnes and Daniel Conlin, Jr.
Zachary Curtis changed the number on his Saturn from his regular #63 to #9z in
honor of his friend and fellow race driver Zack Donatti who passed away a few
days earlier from injuries suffered in a work-related accident at the young
age of 19. Curtis then went out and led every lap of the Four Cylinder Stock
feature in dominant fashion. Curtis lapped up through fifth place as the race
ran all the way under green. Shane Sutorus came home second followed by Jeff
Gross. Eric Hodge took fourth ahead of Kendra Gregory, Damien Kwaak, Travis
Carr, Troy Gregory and Michael Hanna. Heat race wins went to Curtis and
    Gross.
After Megan Matheny and Robert Skinner tangled while fighting for the lead,
Warren Howie took over the top spot and went on to win his first Strictly
Stock feature of the year. Skinner hit the backstretch wall head-on but was
OK even though his Camaro was eliminated from competition while Matheny
continued and came back to finish second in her Ford T-Bird to Howie's big
Chevrolet. Crash Tyner had his best finish of the year taking third in a
Lincoln ahead of Jamie Sullivan, Cody Carr, Robert Skinner, Tommy Flinn and
James Skinner. Howie and Matheny won the heats.
David Owen won the Legend Car feature after a great race-long duel with "Too
Tall" Dave Gleason who had to settle for the runner-up spot. Whitney Poole
drove Owen's back-up car to third place.
Colton Bramlett won both the heat and feature in the Bandoleros over Steven
Hollinger and Brandi Bibeau. Meanwhile, the Antique Race Cars wrapped up the
evening's racing action with a pair of races. Driving Wayne Ashton's car, Doc McKinney topped the race for six-cylinder and Ford flatheads over Scott Fobes and Dave
Davis while the V-8 feature race went to Larry Larivee in his #711 over Ron
Hess, Tobi Smith and Billy Belflower.
Orlando SpeedWorld will now take the months of July and August off, then
return to action on Friday night September 5th. In celebration of the 40th
anniversary of the facility, adult admission prices will be reduced to the
1974 admission of $5 for the remainder of the season.
