  • NSS Update on Pro Late Model Tire Rule from Ricky Brooks

Due to the confusion and everyone not being in the loop on Saturday June 14, the tire impound that took place will not be done. I received a couple of calls about several teams putting brand new scuffs into the impound. I just happened to be in town and went and saw the tires for myself and found that 3 teams were indeed trying to work the system. The intent here is to save racers money and keep more cars at the track which works all over the country in late model divisions as well as others. That being said here is the impound procedures that will start Saturday June 21...

This week only teams may purchase 4 tires. After the drivers meeting there will be a 5 lap scuff session and race tires must be on the car for this and tires will be marked. When the car returns to pit road the cars will be impounded on pit road where you may make adjustments to the car. At the conclusion of the feature or a wreck, the car must go directly to the tire barn and remove 2 tires that raced that night and put them in tire barn. The next week you will get those 2 used tires and may purchase a maximum of 2 new tires. Failure to turn in tires will result in having to get 2 used tires out of the take off pile that will be kept separate from others and you will start in the rear that week. Cars coming in after this week will also have to get 2 tires from the take off pile until they get 2 in the impound. Mystery flats will be considered as playing games and you can get a used tire from the pile. The intent here is to save money not get an unfair advantage.

I'm no expert in this area, but it seems to me that 'preventing' racers from throwing on 4 new stickers every time out there, is a step in the right direction.

The idea has, and DOES work in other places. If it can help here, why not try?

I'd rather see 15 cars not handling 'perfectly', than 10 cars that do.

Wherever it is, it's always a good plan to cut expenses. This is weekly racing, not so mega shows where money is no object.

Many places are on a 2 tires rule, some places one tire rule, and it does work pretty good.

This is linked direct to ''how much it cost to play with it'', which is the biggest reason of low car counts. Not necessarly the price of the car but the price of playing with it everyweek or so.

Limit the tires, cut the laps, get rid of never ending practices are all good moves in right direction. Cutting expenses does the same thing as increasing purses, leaves more money in racers pockets.

or the guys that run more than 1 track..... now you need to have a set just sitting for 1 track, if you are low buck and you usually struggle with tire bills but aren't dedicated to any 1 track this wont help. as in any new implementation it has its negatives.....

What other tracks are running Pro Lates? 5 Flags is all I know here in Fla.

Wow, didn't realize that NSS was all that's left for pro lates down there. South Alabama west of Dothan runs them monthly in the Viper series. They seem to only get 10 to 12 nowadays. I don't think watermelon runs them.

                tech

I wanted to build a truck or a pro late, but like I have said before, until I see a cam doctor, checking cams, I will remain a spectator. The trucks and pro lates are now both on two tire rule. Now lets start checking cams. Then the average Joe (Vince) will at least think they have a chance! Vince Patola

you are right, I just went looking and noticed no one else is running them yet. OSW said they will be on schedule after the summer break but that's all. I would have never thought pro's were only running 1 track in Florida.... ridiculous imo. guess NSS cant go wrong with this tire rule until another track or 2 gets something going.

Anybody that has a crate late and a super late isn't a "low buck guy" and can probably afford tires for both.

thats bs. just because you work hard and have a couple of race cars doesn't mean you can spend money for tires at will. We always used take offs from our super and ran on our limited.

I at 1 time on both my modified and super could run tires a week or two and sell them to a lower division and help offset the price of new one's.

I once read a great tip about buying used tires...

"Never pay 1/2 price for used tires. It costs you both the same dollars, but he good the GOOD half".

                          Makes sense.
