  • Southern Sportsman Series @ USA

To date, we have received exactly 1(one) pre-registration for the Sept. 6 Southern Sportsman race that was added as support for the third leg of the Triple Crown. The cut off for pre-registration is Aug. 16th. What we are hoping/looking for is a full field. 28 cars should not be hard to come by judging from the class at other speedways. Will we settle for less... probably, but not alot less. If you need you may call me and I will give you the info or you may e-mail us at racinggoodyear@aol.com. My cell # is 863-698-8429. The pre-registration is the same as if you were at the track.$50.00 members/$75.00 non-members. This is so we know that the show will go on. Let's get them in soon. Look forward to the race as I always do with this class. Should be great!
    Thanks

Whats the point of roughing up the series promoters? They are only trying to keep the series alive. Why not some positive constructive criticism instead of just giving them a hard time. They want to series to be successful for the racers and the fans. Don't you?

No not really not until some promoters change the way of doing buisness.

Some are getting it CCMP. Citrus. Ocala!
        Some are not Desoto.NSS.OSW.....
        Series....
        Sunbelt-Your kidding me right!
SSS-USA Int. 1 Entry to date!
        Gulfcoast Mods SEE YA!
Anything that Don Nerone has touched either has been run into the ground.. killed off or is on life support and he saw the writing on the wall and jumped ship to start killing tracks.
Bottom line it wasnt the racers that killed these series...
By the way i'm not a big fan of 15 traveling series....

It amazes me after talking with Mike from ocala 1 year ago.. he saw the writing on the wall and changed.. racers embraced it and fans stayed... Others have that "my way or the highway style" of doing buisness and the racers are tired of being fed something they know is BULL

Let me ask this who is the person that should be held responsible for the success of a track or series? Promoter/Owners right?

Certain Promoters/Owners allow emotions or personal reasons to get in their way when making decisions at thier track thus resulting in numerous situations over the past 4 years since I've watched racing here in Florida.
Certain Track Owners/Promoters take things very personal.
What they dont understand is this it's not about YOU or YOUR track....
If you bought a track to feed your ego...Maybe your in the wrong buisness..
If you bought a track to turn a huge profit that takes .time .effort. and money. If you dont have all three.... Maybe your in the wrong buisness...
If your a promoter and cant come up with a title sponsor or assoc sponsors for races.. Maybe your in the wrong buisness..

If you care to be the next Ed Yerrington. Ben Dodge Bob Bahre learn from them. Take a page from their playbook look at others see what is going good but to ride a series or track for that matter into the ground and then say oh well the racers and fans didnt support me see you later your loss is just plain lazyiness or not being savy to enough. Of course your going to make mistakes but it takes man to take those same mistakes and make them right and to not make them again. Your merely just a person that allows racers to race and for fans to come and see those people race. What do you get out of it MONEY!! Did you take in enough at the gate to cover the purse and bills. Is it enough for you to turn a profit well thats up to you. You can work hard be savy earn the respect of the racers and fans and line your pockets or do you just sit on your golf cart and blame the very same people.

I say if the shoes fits wear it.... if your doing good by your track and series then it will show and your actions will speak for themselves.....

Bet your bottom dollar as they make those bonehead decisions I will drive from Palm Harbor FL past Auburndale Desoto and head on down to CCMP to watch some racing and then North to Citrus to change it up.
WHY because I can... my money.. my dollars each promoter could have had! I'm fed up with selfish promoters and will not help them line their pockets with hard earned cash.... I would much rather spend it where I know i'm going to see some racing and generally it is good racing at that.

I dont have all the answers but I live by a golden rule: Treat others the way you like to be treated... Treat people with dignity and respect and treat you right and forget about the ones who don't... So when I see promoters and owners treat racers the way they do.......I don't cut them any slack.

From 2nd place back I still think the SSS puts on the best show. Its a lot of fun watching the 25 work his way through to the front. There is racing going on all through the field. Some of the car counts have been kind of small but its usually some really good cars that show up. I wouldnt count this series out just yet, not with Lakeland on the schedule.

Damn, I wish I could get motivated to get my car going. I sure love racing at USA. That's the reason I got into FASTRUCKS originally(and Sebring was on the schedule). Also why I decided to go SSS racing...Just turned 50 the other day and have a brand new front clip on the car and still can't get excited about WORKING on it.... I remember when Patrick used to race with us at Columbia and I beat him on a regular basis! LOL! Had my HeyDay(?) in 97' and 98' now it's his turn!WAY TO GO, TRICK! JMitch

Becky and Scott are doing a great job with the Southern Sportsman and asking for a pre-registration is what alot of other series do. They may have only one so far but quite a few have told me they plan to go and race and they are not necessarily regular Southern Sportsman racers so to those who have said they are going, just please, take the time to let them know. It is not rocket science and they don't always have the phone numbers of non-members to call them and ask them. Alittle help would be nice since they have asked nicely.

It only takes a second to help but for some reason, it seems like more want to see everything fail anymore. It does not have to if we all care and there are racers who do care about their tracks and series. I have one mini-stock driver who has done more than called for to get cars at the track to race. He did not have to do this nor was he asked but he told me honestly he wants to see the track succeed and he is willing to help in anyway he can.

Lakeland is the local track's Daytona. And everyone wants to race Daytona and now it is your time Sportsman. The Mini Stocks have been there, the Super Lates, Lates, Trucks and Modifieids, NOW IS YOUR TIME. So please, instead of putting down the officials or the series, if this is your dream, all you have to do is call Becky or e-mail her and say I WILL BE THERE. It is as simple as that.

And I apologize if I have offended anyone but it really gets tiring when there is no much negative anymore. It seems like it is so easy for everyone to be negative but I hope life has more positive than negative or I have wasted my time for years in trying to make local racing positive and good which it is. I would still rather go to a local track and watch their races than go to Daytona and watch NASCAR. We are the heart of racing and sometimes people tend to forget that.

Sorry Jane, the Sportsmen Series has raced at USA 2 or 3 times in past years. It's just the first time in about 3 years for them to be there.

Thanks Rick, I don't bite off people's heads if I am wrong but the point is why
be negative and just not let Becky or Scott know you are racing. I talked to a few of my Orlando Sportsman last night and the main reason some of them can't go is first money and motor. But they also said they would love to go and would if they had the motor because they would find the cash if they thought they had a chance. I offered my 1999 Ford Contour motor but it is only a 4 cylinder. They did not take up my offer!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway Rick, thanks for correcting me. Are your kin coming???

I think Scott and Becky are doing a good job with the sss. Even with the car count low in some races they have always been GOOD races, and if everone signs up like they said they were going to,we should have a really good race
at Lakeland. So lets give Scott and Becky a brake, and start signing up for Lakeland

I don't know about that. But it's in time before the heat races.
