  • ATTN New Smyrna Speedway Pro Late Tire Rule

Effective June 21, 2014 New Smyrna Speedway will adopt a two (2) tire rule for the Pro Late Model division. This rule will not apply to the 50 or 100 lap races. All Pro Late Model teams will be allowed to buy one set of tires on June 14. Every week after the 14th, Pro Late Model teams can only purchase and use two new tires per week.

All tires must be marked with the team name and number. Effective June 14 Tires/Rims must be turned in to the tire room immediately after the completion of the Pro Late Model feature. Tires will be held at New Smyrna Speedway until the next event. Tires will be released to the teams immediately following the drivers meeting. We will factor a five lap scuff session into the nightly schedule.

All tire barcodes will be logged for identification. Any tires purchased during the week for practice etc. (and not left at the track) will not be logged for competition.

Any new competitor to New Smyrna Speedway will only be allowed to purchase two new tires. They will be required to purchase two takeoffs from a competitor’s “bank” of used tires in tire room. No competitor can have over six (6) tires in their “bank” at any time.

If anyone has any questions or concerns please contact Kim Brown (386) 427-4129 x303.

A very smart and unselfish move on NSS's part. If you own a Pro Late, and want to be competitive, you just got your tire bill cut in half (while exorcising the "soaking spectre"). Instead of feeling the need to buy four tires, you can only buy two to run to win. Expense wise, it should enable Pro Late teams to run 3 races for what 2 cost them buying 4 tires. It's no biggie to impound them, where else in Central FL are you gonna run a Pro Late?

but what if one of the racers wants to run a pro late model race at a different track during a NSS off week?

I'm thinking that since the nearest tracks that are running Pro Lates are Pensacola or in Alabama, you're probably buying 4 tires those nights for a big show that would make you wanna tow 7 hrs+.

I still like the Beach Ridge Speedway (Maine) rules that only allow 4 new tires the first week only. After that, it's a 1 tire-per-week rule. You can buy ONE new tire per week, or skip a week and buy 2. Nobody gets 4 new tires.

Everybody in the field had at least 2 used tires, probably 3.

And they get a full field every week because nobody can 'out-budget' the rest of them.

There's lessons to be learned about 'how they do it up North.

Beech Ridge is awesome! No walls in the corners and a great environment for the fans too. No drinking in the main grandstand (family-friendly) and a full fledged Saloon in turn four replete with telephone cable spools to stand on to watch the action, for those who choose to imbibe! Gotta eat the "red" hot dogs when you are there!
