MINI STOCKS GO FOR 50 LAPS SATURDAY AT NEW SMYRNA SPEEDWAY
NASCAR Whelan All-American Series competition continues this Saturday night at
New Smyrna Speedway with the Mini Stock class in action for 50-laps in a race
that was scheduled for last month but rained out.
Ted Vulpius of Mims will be the favorite after winning two of the three races
he's started so far this season. Only James Ellis of Brooksville has won a
Mini Stock feature with Vulpius still running on track and "Mr. Mini Stock"
was second in that event. Other top drivers expected include defending track
champion David Russell of Melbourne and Altoona's Pat Wells, who have also
captured checkered flags in the class this year, along with Jamie Dixson,
Reid Christiensen, Tyler Simpson, Jeff White, Levi Hammond, Jason Reynolds,
Mark Broat and several more.
Also on the card running 25-lap events will be the Pro Late Models, Sportsman
Cars and E-Modifieds while the Strictly Stocks will go for 20 laps.
In four Pro Late Model races so far this year there have been four different
winners: Tyler Audie, Cody Blair, Michael Lira and most recently Daniel Keene,
Jr. The Sportsman cars will again make an attempt to run for the fourth time
this season and several drivers will be looking to get into victory lane for
the first time this year. So far, Chris Brannon, Brandon Morris and Earl
Beckner have take the checkered flag first in Sportsman competition. Jarrett
Korpi is batting .500 so far in the E-Modifieds with three wins in six races.
Matthew Green, Cody Blair and Chris Brannon have the other trio of E-Mod
victories.
Pit gates open Saturday afternoon at 3 pm with division practice slated from
4-6:10 pm. Grandstand gates open at 6 pm prior to Mini Stock qualifying at
6:20pm. Racing action starts at 7:30 pm. Adult admission this week is $15
