  • sprint cars at Sunshine

    Showtime, whatever...
I'm guessing the weather was the reason for the poor turn out?
Looks like 6 cars total and 4 ran both divisions...

There weren't that many there last time either, at least that I remember. The question is, was this another 12 hours of Showtime race like the last time they had sprint cars?

Scott there's no doubt the car count was weak,Groundpounder yu are correct some guys made some easy money,I no for a fact that sport allen, and mickey kempgens left with over 2,000.00 each in there pocket, not bad for 50 total laps of racing, luke we were done and loaded and paid by 10,30sh Like I've said before loveem or hatem he puts the money up, sometimes he's his own worst enemy, lol I do think the first thing he needs to do is open his tire rule up, if you want to run American racer like they do at citrus and TBARA let them run on those tires, make it there choice, but we all no you can't keep forcing these racers to by different tires every time they go there

I give Mr. Yoho a pat on the back for trying something very different. Two races, one night, with the same car in two very different configurations! I would have liked it, and I am surprised that more cars didn't show.

Nothing wrong with swinging for the fence! Good try Showtime.

not sure how much racing there was- 6 cars in one race and 4 in the other- but yeah I think it was a great idea and I too am surprised more cars didn't show up.

Seeing as how he paid the full purse, as has been reported, then I will give him credit for that also.

Oh. So only half the TBARA showed up for that race huh? Maybe if they didn't hate each other so much.. They would race.. Instead of being a bunch of whiney sore losers... Oh wait.. Butler wasn't there either.. Nevermind.

So now you're taking shots at anybody that tries to put on a Sprint Car race? I get your beef with tbara as it pertains to your hero but what does that have to do with this? Why wasn't Joey there?

It looks to have been an ill-conceived idea that wasn't thought through very much. The current car counts have been weak, especially at his track. A spur of the moment decision to make a race??? Good??? How many drivers and owners were called and notified or asked to participate?

Yes, I realize it's his money to spend as he wishes!

That kind of car turn out and exhibition helps nobody (except the guys taking home the cash) including all of the pavement sprint car groups as a whole. Think the fans loved it? Did it make new fans? Would they come back and spend their money for a couple of "exhibition" races? Seeing that, what other tracks would entertain booking a sprint car race? That's why you need a strong, reasonable and thoughtful sanctioning group for the sprint cars, to have sensible events happen for the long term benefit of the participants... to have a future to race their cars.

I'm also getting fed up with the sprint car teams. Give them one more chance for the same purse, if they don't come drop them from the schedule.

When are these track owners going to learn that you can't just come up with an event within two weeks of the date, no matter how big the money, and expect a bunch of cars to show up. We all have lives, families, jobs etc. AND have to plan for the money needed to race to boot, and can't just race at the drop of a hat. Then you get snippy and you remove the division from the schedule cuz you didn't get the car count. Good grief!

More prima dona teams crying about no place to race and then when they have a chance to race, only a handfull shows up.
They've always got an excuse for not showing up with a decent car count. But the TBARA has been thrown out of every race track in Florida ( probably Georgia too ) for not bringing even close to full fields to the tracks.
From a fan's perspective, i've seen the last half full sprint car field i plan to see. If these clowns can't bother to come to the track and put on a show, then i'm not interested in giving them my money.
Somebody please start a real sprint car series in Florida that DOESN'T contain any of the current crybabies and no shows.

The fans aren't interested in the racers lives, or jobs, or families. Any real racer will race with enough notice to be able to get to the track in time to qualify. The fans don't go to the track to watch the drivers who didn't have something else planned for the night. They go to watch racing. If gas money to get to the track is a deal breaker, then the racers need to sell their equip.
The divisions aren't being removed because the track owners are snippy, they're being dropped because the track owners are tired of fan complaints about half full fields.

You dont have to care about racers lives, jobs and families. No one expects fans to. But the track operators better, if they expect a car count. I guess by "real racer" you must mean single, childless, rich, unemployed guys, then. Not many of them left anymore, if there ever was any. It's not just gas money. It's gas money, pit fees, slab fees, tires, race fuel, food, tolls, etc. And that's if nothing breaks and you don't wreck. It costs me an average of over $500 a race to run my SPORTSMAN! The days of making money (or breaking even) are long gone. I think it is indeed snippy to drop a division because you didn't get a car count on a last minute race on a crap weather night (with a restricted tire rule). Matt, if you want to see a good sprint car show go to New Smyrna when the TBARA goes back there in August. Big field and the action was incredible the whole race. The Showtime race WAS NOT a TBARA show.
