Things have fallen into place to make Desoto the place to be for a full fendered frenzy tonite. First, you have a 75 lapper on tap for the Super Late Models that's sure to draw many of the top names in FL. Then you have the makings of what could be an epic Sportsman event. There's big money on the line that pays well into the field (I thank you for my fellow competitors Jimmy and Critter!). Next you have the "perfect storm" of a poor weather forecast to the north which led to Citrus cancelling and Adale downgrading their scheduled Sportsman 50 to just a regular event. This should lead to a big, big Sportsman field for an awesome 40 laps. Every good Sportsman car west of Orlando is likely to be there! As a sidebar, there is a little drama to boot. Mulberry homeboys Aaron Williamson and Brandon Morris were once good buddies and AMF Chassis "teammates" but have recently developed somewhat of a "family feud". A little on track rubbin' and a few bump n run moves exploded into full blown retaliation last time at Citrus (including the necessity of a Deputy's intervention!). Tonite should be the first time on track together for both since that fateful night. Both are who I'd consider the Top Dogs at Desoto every time they hit the track so this story will likely play out at the front of the field and maybe for the win! I can't wait to get down there, grab some popcorn and some SUDS and watch it all play out! If you can only catch one race this month, this is the one to watch! Don't miss this event, if you can!

Nice to see them stick it out. Seems pretty much the rest cancelled because they HAD to, and a few that didn't try at ALL.
As a fan, in 'iffy' weather, I'm most likely to head to the track that tries the hardest to make things happen. Not like the bullshit OSW has been doing for years bailing out on Wednesday & Thursday if it looked 'iffy'.
I hope they PACK the place with both cars & fans.
If I wasn't 2-1/2 hours from there, I'd be on my way.

Thanks to everyone at Desoto Speedway for the enormous effort to put on a race. The delay was worth it, great racing again. Decent car count by the Sportsman guys, but if they plan on putting anything like a series together, more of them need to show up to race. Supposedly there's 50 or more of them wanting to go racing.
Congrats to Campi, that was a good race. Also thanks to Desoto for excellent food in the concession stand.

I didn't think the car count for Sportsman was descent, I thought it was poor. But the car counts for all the divisions was a little off. I think the combination of a last minute announcement of this as a big race for Sportsman, gloom and doom weather forecasters and a big Sportsman race up the road just a week ago kept a lot of teams home for one reason or another (it did for me). But hats off to Jimmy and Critter for never flinching at what just turned out to be a brief period of showers. I think all in all it was a great night in every aspect under the circumstances. Almost every other track cancelled this weekend.

Checking the results, all but two classes had less than 10 cars and the ones that got into double figures were at 10 and 14 (SLM and one was a DNS)... Not what I'd call a "strong" field of cars... Still at least they made the effort to race... They could have called it on Tuesday because the forecast looked bad LOL...

Since you've been with Orlando Speedworld for some time now, 10 and 14 car fields should look huge to you. I think you've noticed by now that the new Desoto Speedway isn't going to follow OSW in their curious practice of cancelling races on Tuesday.

weather
I too am sure the weather had a lot to do with it (lower then normal car counts). Desoto is on it's way back to the top of the list, for short tracks in the state. Consistency is the key to it, and they have showed a lot of it, since the new management has taken over. Once the fans and drivers see that they are going to do everything within reason to get the show in, more will come when the weather is iffy. On a side note, the food was good, the beer was cold, and the place is real clean. Vince
