Ahh, satisfaction! I realize that I'm having a good night at the races when I find myself thinking, "wow, that is a cool class, I wish I was driving one of those..." Last night, I found myself thinking that all night. I bet the drivers had a blast: affordable cars, mostly locals, lots of competition and no drama, at least nothing that was evident from the stands. It was my first trip to BRP since the Winter Nationals, and my party of 3 really liked it!
What did we see? Good racing in all classes, heats and features for 75 cars in a 4 hour show.
The biggest surprise for me were the TQ late models. I had not seen this class for years, and had pretty low expectations. However, they showed up with 10 or 11 and put on an outstanding race! The top half of the field went door to door, passing and re-passing. It was the best race of the night, and that is saying something.
This is coming from a guy who often comments about too many look-alike classes of made from 40 year old antique Monte Carlos. I have to give the TQ LM's credit for coming up with something that looks and sounds ENTIRELY DIFFERENT than anything else.
I also got a kick out of BRP's policy of giving free admission to women dressed in Daisy Duke's and cowboy boots. Yes, it is a cheap gimmick that appeals to the basic instincts of male fans, and yes I was over-joyed to see how many pretty women took the track up on this offer! Its all about having a fun night out, right?
BUT to be fair, my worst pet peeve was realized. There was no soap in the men's room. Yuck! Please assign a few full-time employees to that and make sure it doesn't happen again.
However, when you factor in BRP's excellent beer stand, Joe Dirt on the mic, 25 mini sprints and a well prepared, multi-groove track, it still came out great. Yes, we'll be back soon, hopefully for the Top Gun sprints.
