  • Super Lates at Pensacola

This was the best race I've seen in probably 3 years. Pollard and Augie swapping the lead 5 or 6 times over the last 25 laps was simply amazing. Pollard had the better car but Augie used a little bumper then it was on, good hard clean race by those 2. Always a treat to go to Pensacola for a super late race. They run the show on time, and always welcome the racers and the fans.

Only been there twice. About '84, and again in '06. Both times, I was completely impressed. That place ROCKS. The entire city, at least during the Snowball, is engulfed by racing fever. The only 2 comparisons I have as a fan, are Super Dirt Week in Syracuse, and the All American 400 in Nashville.

Bucket list places still include Eldora, and Knoxville.... legend says that these two dwarf the things I HAVE seen..... and I have seen some COOL events along th way.

It was a Super race (get it?)! That track has so much character. It's tough to go on the outside but it can be done. Nasse found out the hard way how hard it is to stay out front on older tires with an ill handling car at 5 Flags, I didn't see exactly what happened but he was in the way and they really shouldn't have put him in that position imo. The white 29 (Anderson Bowen?) was fast and smooth all night taking care of the car and slowly working his way to the front, he made a few great passes on the outside. I was looking dead at the Rogers/Smith thing and the guy did cut down. 20 years ago, pre-spotter, I'd have said that Rogers wasn't all the way in there and should have lifted but in this day and age he got his nose under him a little coming off 4 and I'm sure he thought Smith's spotter would tell him he was there and it did look like he was going to give David room but then Smith cut left going in and came across the nose. I'm sure Smith's spotter said "clear" and he turned left, and with that wall on the inside there was nowhere for Roger's to go and it happened too fast for him to get his nose back out of there.

Pollard and Grille are just that good, I've seen a bunch of races at 5 Flags over the years and I'm not sure I've ever seen guys go side by side for the lead for that long without any significant contact.

This track has long been known for its outstanding racing and has certainly earned its reputation as a well run facility. I attended a Snowball in the early 70s. David Pearson showed up in a beautiful car that was too light and was promptly sent home. That's integrity.
