Finally going to watch a race at Desoto...

Having grown up here and been a fan of racing for 30 plus of my 43 yrs, it is somewhat sad that I have never been able to watch a show at Desoto. I have tried but rain or other circumstances have always prevailed. Well, we are staying in Bradenton this weekend and I figured I would finally take in a show... Suffice it to say they are not running today, which I heard prior to coming down, but I figured we would run out and verify it.

Glad we did..the drag strip was rocking, wife and son had never seen drag racing before so we got a great show for free. Up close and personal to all the cars. My son was blown away by some of them.

Still never seen a circle track show there!

The track was closed because one of the largest parades in FL was going on in town.

Yeah, that drag strip is always a good show. Huge number of cars at every event and virtually no spectators.
Too bad Desoto was off. They've made big strides out there in every way. Of course they had to dig out of a pretty deep hole that John left. Jimmy and Don have made some good calls so far, even throwing out the usual overpriced racing gas and bringing in Renegade ( I cheated a little, I clicked on the Renegade logo on the Desoto web site to see what it was and turns out it's the brand of racing fuel they sell at Desoto) And they're not afraid to go head to head with promoters who try to schedule a race on top of them.
