    Great Job

I just want to say Great Job to a couple of Citrus County Speedway Regulars going to another track and running in the top 5! JD and Dora way to go. What's on the agenda for this weekend?

      Mods

Why were there only 13 mods for 3 grand to win? Was there another race at another track? Just curious!

        OWM Car Count

Very good question Turn Left, we had a $3K to win race with a very good pay back and only 13 show up. No other tracks running OWM or Sportsman, so it must not be about the money, not bashing Anyone but it boggles me to understand what us as promoters need to do to get more cars for these big races.

It rough times now Rick for a lot of drivers to come race even with great payouts. It showing at all the tracks in the last month.

Gary, I have to respectfully disagree with your view that "rough times" are keeping drivers away right now. I think there are a lot of factors for the smaller fields. For one, there have been a lot of "big events" around the state in the last month and most racers (myself included) don't have any appreciable amount of sponsorship so we have to pick and choose where and when we race. Big purses are a draw but it is never the sole factor as to where and when I choose to race. Here's how I (and probably most working class racers) pick my events.

            1. Will I be treated well where I am going? Does the track management treat me with respect? Do they act like they appreciate me being there?

            2. Do I have a fair chance to win? Is tech going to be tough enough to catch the cheaters? Will the track play favorites and look the other way for a select few?

            3. What are the chances that my car will come home in one piece? Do the rules/calls (or lack thereof) create an environment where crashfests are likely to occur?

            4. Is the racetrack conducive to passing/racing? Or is it one groove? Do I enjoy racing the layout of the track?

I think it is up to track management to create an environment that will entice racers to want to spend our hard earned money to race. In the end, for me anyway, its about the experience, not the purse, that makes me want to come back or not. There are tons of us in Trucks, Sportsman and OWM's that have cars ready to race, you just need to create an environment that will give us a good enough experience to want to come out and spend all that money.

Also as a Sportsman racer (and probably for Trucks too) we are saddled down with these tires that were intended for and left behind by the OWM's. They fall off so quickly that if you are not on stickers you have virtually zero chance of winning. The left sides are so soft that they wear out just about as fast as the rights. They fall off 2-3 tenths after the first heat cycle alone! I will not even show up to race unless I have enough money to buy four tires. If we simply had a tire that could last 2 nights (like the OWM's now have) I could afford to race twice as much as I do now. Even just going to the harder 650 tire all around the car would be an improvement. Even better would be to go back to the old 880 or Commanche, even.

I havent raced for 30 years

But everyone of those points would come into play if I were to ever start back. And I think about 70 percent of the guys out there running right now ask themslves these same questions. The other 30 percent are running up front most of the time so may not be.
