It's been a couple of lean years for "The Southern Gentleman", but glad to see he still has it.

His popularity in Dirt Late Model racing can only be compared to King Richard Petty's. Not an enemy in the world it seems.

At the inaugural Colossal 100 in Charlotte, there was a mandatory drivers autograph session, where the longest line, by FAR, was right in front of Freddie Smith. When he retires, I think you'll see a big drop in attendance at the shows he would normally have run. Kinda like with the retirement of Richard, Harry Gant and the death of Earnhardt, a lot of fans left the sport and never did return.

I have certainly been a fan of Freddy Smith for many years. I was at Cleveland Speedway a few years ago for a Southern Allstars show and another car showed up with the famous "00" and he was soundly booed and publically criticized by the announcer. Freddy is truly a legend.
