  • Check out the change at Speedworld

There is a surprise waiting at Speedworld... Much of the infield has been paved this week. It was done to expand usage of the figure 8 track, and to better hold other events like autocross and drifting.

I love to see work on that part of the track surface, it was a mess in there. Hopefully the plans for figure 8 racing will come together too.

Here is a suggestion to help the fans in the stands better see the action on the track. Several years ago, Rusty Marcus has the fence painted flat black. The black paint makes the fence appear to blend in with the background and it is easier to see through. Although its been a while, there is enough paint on the back fence so that the view from the back stands is still good.

As I sat in the main stands for a while last week, I really noticed how much that unpainted fence stood out, and how much it took away from the color and the action of the whole scene. I know you guys got the paving bill this week, but a little fence painting project would pay dividends too.

    Thanks for the improvement!

    Chain-link fences

It agree, the silver-colored chain linked fences are a bear to see through, straight-through and even at all the angled sights, which are where most of the action is on any given oval track card/show.

Flat black on the catch fencing is always the way to eliminate that problem. The high dollar cost of painting this is almost always done with spray paint, whereas almost 80% of the paint is lost to thin air.

Roller-brush that flat black paint on, and almost 100% goes onto the chain links...........problem solved. I know this because I did at a raceway once. It was a little more time consuming, but with one painter on the inside, and one painter on the outside, you just move on down the line working in tandem, it goes on quickly in one afternoon.

        image/photo

Look closely at the photo---a transit/theodolite stands in the middle, and surveying stakes with marked grade/slopes all around in all directions.

I'll bet this has a lot more to do with the slow drainage issues than anything else, as the are only 2 drains in the infield----------one middle left, and one middle right---- this really might help.

Citrus CountyRaceway gave up on this idea; they just made a pond inside turns 3 and 4. Problem solved for them.

A plumbing project? Seriously? Rog, get your head out of the drainfield my friend. The infield is for racing and automotive non-sense of all kinds.

Here is a teaser for you....there are plans to build another race course on the Speedworld property. No, I promise it is not for Olympic curling, and its not going to be Bithlo's first Bob-sled run either.

I hope they get it together, because it is a type of motorsport that I have only seen on TV....and not much of that.

            tit-for-tat

Plumbing and draining is my field, and I guess my projections will be wrong.

Maybe this has something to do with more soap and toilet paper being supplied in the restrooms.

I talked to Donnie at length about these projects a couple of weeks ago... The paving was supposed to be done by last week but weather postponed that to this week... It will really add to the experience for the drifters (the Four Tops and the Temptations too) but what I like is the fact it will make the Crash-A-Rama Demo Derbies much better... MOE... give the guys extra room to hit each other now instead of the small area that ends up being clogged with junk...
Once the area is cleaned up, a rallycross track will be built behind the pits... This is basically dirt track autocross and looks like it could be a lot of fun...
The neat thing about the drifting, autocross and rallycross is that there is no payout... Much like SCCA racing, the drivers pay to play and they actually attract some pretty good crowds who are also paying admission... All this means is more money in the bank for Ozzy which will lead to further improvement of the Stock Car show... I'm not sure if they got to it this week, but plans are to re-grade and pave that area in the pits in front of the restrooms that always fills up with water... Now, all we need is a roof over the place and things will be perfect... By the way OSW will shut down during the month of July this year to give everybody a break and not worry about the precipitation and heat for once...

Are they planning on having a large magnet to pick up the steel out of the tires of drift cars that land on the oval track when they are done with the drifting program? This is was a issue once before (lots of flats).

A salute to Rog! He could smell a drainage project from a mile away...so to speak. You were right bud, in addition to the paving there were drainage projects too.

Here is to a better Speedworld!

No. Giving strictly stocks an extra heat race just to make sure it's clean for you guys. Way better then a magnet

The little shards of steel from the radials tires are potentially a BIG problem. I had 2 of my guys last Saturday get stuck while cleaning the tires to check stagger.

Steve, Get a few pair of those white Gardening gloves with the little black grip dots on them and keep them in the trailer. They help a lot.

Here is the way I see it, if stock car racing has to share the track with others in order to stay open, then so be it. Dont complain, learn to work together. I am just happy the track reopened. Ozzy is taking the money he is earning and putting together it back into the track. Thank u

And someone please clean the bathrooms!!! No matter what the show, women prefer a clean bathroom.
