Leanrned something new today. Nascar once used the Indy-style start by having the line-up set 3-cars wide, instead of the traditional 2-wide that we see every week. Ontario Speedway in California was built as a copy of the Indianapolis Speedway (2-1/2 mile rectangle), and races were held there for several years. The fans never supported the place, and it went bankrupt and eventually torn down completely.
Here's a picture to prove the "Indy-style" send off was used.
