The picture Modelcarman put on at Golden Gate, with #116, 121, and #144.
I was at Mt. Clemens race track in Michigan and Jr. Handley show up with car #44, it looks just like the one in the picture.
I took a picture of it. But i sold the my pictures to Jim Hehl, if he see's this maybe he can post it.

Are you sure about that my friend? I'm pretty sure that's at the Gate because I have that picture. My dad took it from the grandstands sitting next to the pressbox. I have the whole roll of pictures from that day. I pretty sure Jim Fenton can look at the picture and see if it's the Gate or not also.

No question about this being at the Gate. I'm just not sure about Hanley being in the #144. Actually IMHO this doesn't look like a typical Hanley ride. (Meant as a compliment).

At this particular time there was also two local #44 Late Models. One was Richard Dermer out of Tampa and the other was the Marty Runyun Late Model also from Tampa and driven by both Runyun and Larry Brazil.

My money is on the #144 in this shot being one of those two local cars.

Seeing Charlie Mincy's #116 (his regular number was actually #16) in this shot brings back fond memories of him. I first met him at St Pete (SS Speedway) than actually became friends with him later with my first trip to his home track, Dixie Speedway in GA. He was helpful to me up there with some good tips to get around the place and I always appreciated that.

I believe I heard quite awhile later that Charlie was badly injured at Dixie with a hard 90-degree impact at full speed into the front straightaway wall (also heard that it sepatated his rib cage) which pretty much ended his career.

I think ModelcarMan is much more familiar with Charlie's history as well as Dixie Speedway so I'm sure he can straighten me out on these details.

Your right Jim, Charlie Mincy number was #16. Here's a picture of his car at Dixie on pit row before the race. Looks like the same car from the Gate to me.

That #144 in the pic from Tampa was a northern car; I wanna say out of either Ohio or Michigan. I also wanna say that Ruttman drove that car at one time at Toledo I believe. I remember seeing pics of that car *somewheres*, but I don't think Hanley was ever in that car.

I think Harold Smith drove the car at the Gate... Jim Bickerstaff also raced for that team... They were out of Ohio...

No, my dad sponor Sonny Kocsis ZERO car that year, then built a Monte Carlo the next year and had different drivers over the years drive it.

Didn't win a ton of races, but he did win the biggest of all... the World 100 at Eldora Speedway in OH.

Not the picture I was looking for, but this is Doug Hoffman. This guy came out of nowhere and became one of the winningest and toughest racers in the Northeast. Before going on to drive for other owners, the whole Hoffman family was involved in the racecar. I think it was 5 brothers that all contributed to fielding their famous number "60-Over"

They even did some Asphalt racing when Flemington paved the place (which killed one of the best race tracks of all time). This photo is taken at Lancaster Speedway in NY.

I remember watching Bickerstaff race at our home track Columbus Motor Speedway back in Ohio as well as Harold Smith, Marvin Smith, Carl Smith, John Vallo, Don Gregory, Dick Dunlevy Jr. Jim Cushman, Ed howe, Larry Moore and many other greats. Mike
