  • A night in Daytona

We made it over to Daytona to see some racing, had a great time.
Got to go to NSS and saw some great racing. There were more Tour Mods there than I expected, but some big names still weren't. But a guy sitting behind us pointed out an interview of Ted Christopher by Lenny Sammons in Area Auto Racing News that explained exactly why the Tour Mod fields have diminished at NSS. Very informative. Love those Tour Mods. Very good field of Super Lates and Pro Lates.
Friends took us to Genes Steak House. Damn, they should franchise that place. It was filled with racing people, we sat next to the GMs of Darlington, Richmond, Atlanta, and Texas.
The truck race at DIS was very good, once the rain stopped. Not very many people thru the injectors for the Trucks, so we didn't have to fight crowds. Kyle deserved the win, drove a very smart race. Too Bad about Ben Kennedy, he was very competitive.

You don't happen to have a link do you? I seem to be search challenged this morning and can't find it.

Sorry, I don't. I was reading his copy of the paper. I know it was in issue #7.

And speaking of people thru the injectors ( I actually heard Joie Chitwood use that same ridiculous NASCAR speak word in a press conference ), the size of the crowd at NSS was sure small for the great racing they had.

Regarding Christopher. The mod competitors have said with a laugh that tc is not here because he csnnt get away with anything in tech. Tc was sent home three years ago for multiple infractions and refusing to tear down when protested by preece father and went home last year when he broke a motor and his backupp motor was illegal with to much compression and no one else would loan him a motor. Tallking to the teams last night they liked the racing. Two races totalling 176 laps with two minor cautions. Not the beating and banging in previous years

Well here's the meat of the interview. Cristopher says it would cost him $8500 for tires for the week. And he figures that just to run the " Apron " would be $2400 for tires for the day. Tires for the " Apron " are $201.50 ea. and he would need at least 2 sets and probably three in case of cut tires.
For NSS he figures 6 sets of tires ( one set per day ) plus practice tires. He says the Hoosier tires are about $120 but at NSS they cost $187.
The payouts at NSS for the tour mods is $1500 to win the regular feature, $2500 to win the John Blewitt with $200 to start, and $3000 to win the Richie Evans with $300 to start.
Factor in the cost of fuel to get to Florida plus food and hotels, entry fees each night, race gas etc. I assume those are accurate numbers.
I think I understand the reluctance of these guys to come down here for that kind of pay out.
