  • Who says tracks can't work together...

    Cool deal here.

Both NFS & Ocala have the UMP Mods on today's schedule. NFS has agreed to run the Mods first at their track, and Ocala is running the entire Sprint program first. This will allow the time for the Mods to get here from Lake City.

These guys came from all over the country to RACE. So far it's been almost a bust.

But today, they can get 2 full programs in on one day. I'm betting more than a few will make the haul down here....!

Phil and Liz are to of the most open and honest track owners I have ever dealt with in all my years(50 plus) of racing. They do it for a true love of the sport. They took a virtual shit pot of a facility and have continuously poured money back into it to make it a decent facility for the fan and the driver. Pretty no but racey yes and with no bad seats in the house. During the years we were racing he always treated us with respect and made good on his word. Considering NFS had their show scheduled for some time and Bubba is trying to get his first race of the year run as rescheduled rainout I think is even more meaningful that Phil and Liz would make this deal work. A good thank you to them would be to try and attend one of their races that you might not normally go to as a thank you.

Some good points EG. Over the years I had stopped by that track a few times during the week on part of my sales route. It was a hunk of garbage of a track, and never ONCE considered the 3 hour drive to get there.

UNTIL, I had heard such good things about the improvements and the car counts.

I've still only been there twice in the Phil & Liz years, but I damn sure wish it wasn't so far away. I could be a semi-regular there if I didn't have to bypass 12 other tracks that are closer...!

Was this a track or driver decision?

Please. On Sunday I was told Ocala was short on modifieds. At that point I already had my drivers meeting done and schedule was set for the night. I told ump official I would speed up our show to allow cars to get to Ocala. I told them I would have payouts ready as soon as the cars came off the track. I also told them I would have their race done by 8:30. The race was over by 8:09. I had a intermission scheduled with a meet and greet set to meet all the mod drivers with autograph session that I canceled to get the cars out of there. I shorted my fans to accommodate another track. I also had 2 mod dashes set & 1 B main set instead I ran all 27 cars. Myself and my staff are all for the racer and the other tracks. Ocala said that was fine, they were needing time to dry & run in track. Also they were going to run all sprint program 1st. Thank you to all the fans & racers for supporting NFS.

Thank you for quickly coming to the front and telling exactly what took place. That is very much in keeping with what I said in my original post. A very special thanks to you and Phil for being the type of people you are. It is a shame that your love for the sport and its people is not as important to more owners and promoters. You truly try to do all that you can for the betterment of the sport.

Great job Liz. It was pretty damn cool seeing cars lining up at Ocala at 9:30-10:00 after running NFS first.

Your efforts improved the show at a competitors facility.... that's about as self-less as you can get.

Making decisions based on the betterment of the sport..... what a novel concept...!!!

At some point this year I will plunk my admission money down at the gates of NFS. Your efforts should be rewarded, and I will do that in my small way of showing my appreciation.

I suspect he made the same mistake I have. I went to a site saw the results and made an assumption. I even got fired from one of my first jobs for telling the boss I assumed so I guess that makes me a slow learner as well. I haven't seen Ocala act like a pot stirrer in the past so I will give the benefit of the doubt.
